Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo (その花びらにくちづけを) began as a simple yuri visual novel that features a really light yuri story. It emphasized the soft romance between two girls and quickly became one of a kind in a world dominated by fetishist and heavy materials. It was also one of the firslonging t ecchi visual novel that features purely yuri relationships. Because of its uniqueness, it soon gained widespread popularity not only within the niche, but among many anime fans.
Following the success of the first game, Sono Hanabira quickly expanded into a series of games that all cater to the sweet fluffy side in us. Since its humble beginning, the visual novel series has also prompted several associated artworks, light novels, drama CDs, an artbook, and even an anime adaptation.
Impeccably complemented by Peko’s gorgeous artwork, Sono Hanabira is definitely one of the most adorable things I have ever seen.

It’s quite short but it’s all in images cause it was the only way I could keep the formatting how I wrote it. If anyone bothers, could you tell me how the characters seem? They fell a little off to me 😦

I think I’ve fixed it all now. Also put in video format rather than text but it took ages as I had to make up 190 separate images with text and then put them into movie maker set different durations for each pic.I think it turned out ok. I’ll send you the link. It’s about 12 minutes.

Has anyone ever watched the “Dance in the Vampire Bund” anime? After playing through Hana7 I realized that Runa looks almost exactly like Princess Mina, hell they even act the same way.
I thought the exact same thing! Mina isnt nearly as cute but then agian i dont think she was meant to be. Runa has alot more moments where she opens up as aposed to mina who hides alomost all of her problems from akira. Runa is more tsundere while mina is more reserved i think. haha sorry to ramble though im just happy someone else thought what i did

Fuguriya made two announcements today. The first is a compilation of Reo-ppoi Radio on an audio-only DVD, collecting all current episodes and additional content, largely featuring Mai. The total runtime is currently unknown.
The second is the next drama CD, 通い妻だいありぃ “Commuting Wife Diaries”, which takes place after The Joy Of Loving You.
Both items are scheduled for release on 30 December 2011 during Comiket 81.
Update: The runtime of the Reo-ppoi Radio DVD is 206 minutes, comprising only the first six episodes and an additional episode 6.5. For perspective, the combined runtime of all currently available episodes is 11 hours and 29 minutes. The first six episodes run a total of 170 minutes.
It seems Fuguriya is pushing hard to have Reo and Mai as the flagship couple of the series, not that that’s a bad thing. Anyway, thanks for the update. ^ ^

Thanks, glad you liked. I really wanted to keep the characters feeling right. I think I did that ok but 3 bits in particular I feel indifferent about, a bit too cheesy (I think is the right term), mainly the first half of the end (from Kaede waking up to Sara appearing).
But I had fun doing it so I forgive myself for that 🙂

Is there any where you can learn how to translate and reprogram? I would love to take on a project but i have no idea how to even start.
For translation you’d need to start with literally years of intensive studying until you became as fluent as possible. There’s no shortcut to that or any simple way. Seek out Japanese courses at local schools and study your brains out on your own.
If your Japanese is sufficient, I’d ask AXYPB for information, tips, and tools for the patching side of things.

Tomino Nakiyoshi has translated some of the questions on Fuguriya’s FAQ. Some of the answers have been known in the community for some time, but only in part until now.

Man, after all these years, playing the first Sonohana game is like booting Wolfenstein 3D after a section of Serious Sam 3… It’s still awesome as hell.
Haha, yeah. I’ve played and loved some pretty intense and hardcore games like the Ninja Gaiden series (primarily NG2), Bayonetta, DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu and DeathSmiles to name the main ones yet going back to something as simple and basic as the SonoHana series is awesome everytime ^_^

Damn shame. I really hope it goes back up, it’s one of the few sites I get good DL speeds from and the one where I had stored all my crap. So~ much stuff would have been lost from this, hell, a few mates of mine just lost over 500 gameplay videos (completely legal), again all was archived luckily.

Hi i had to system restore my computer back to factorydefault and i had saved myfolder for my Sono Hanabiras but they didn’t work. So i tried the non-megavideo downloads but they only give my unknown rar files. i have winzip to unzip whats needed but the files aren’t being given to my right or something. Also I couldn’t find a working link for Sono Hanabira 3 remake (i had the original 3, 5 and remake of 3 in my old folder). Is there a way for me to use what I already have? Because i can’t seem to be able to get any download working correctly for 3 remake and 5 that are in the right format or aren’t deleted.
All the files work for me. A few notes about them that may hopefully solve your issues.
First, make sure your computer has Japanese. Also, if it doesn’t work, try making a new folder and dragging all the contents from the extracted folder into that new folder. The .exe file should work then. After that, apply the patch, and it should be good.
All the non-megaupload mirrors contain the same file. The mediafire mirrors for 3 remake and 5 work, so you could try those. You need a program like hjsplit to join the files though.

Well i fixed part of it (was using winzip not winrar). I got translated version of Hanabira 5 working, but i cant extract from the hanabira 3 remake part 1 and 2 files from the mirror. It’s as if something is wrong with the fiels themselves or they aren’t complete or something. Do you need hanabira 3 working before using the hanabira 3 remake?
For the remake, you’re going to need a program like hjsplit to join the two parts. Once you do, you’ll have a .rar file that’s like all the other ones. Have fun~ ^ ^

I had to keep the letter as brief as possible, so my portion of it mentioned what I believe to be one of the most common praises of the series among the English-speaking fans: Fuguriya’s stated dedication to keep their yuri products free of sex toys, men, futanari, or hardcore actions.
yeah… it’s hard to find good “pure” yuri these days.

Why does Hanabira 6 doesn’t have a translation until now?
Because translating visual novels are a painful, exhausting, and often thankless job, so only people who both have the ability, and are super super nice tend to pick up these projects. These people are rare. ^ ^
Reo-ppoi Radio episode 25, released on 11 February 2012, featured a brief SHK Election advertisement from Mai. I presume other characters will make similar appeals in future episodes, but it is too early to be sure.

I noticed Takako saying that she went to the school at the time people started calling seniors they like “Onee-sama” which sounds like something that Yuuna X Nanami started.
The visual novels following the first six are ambiguous with respect to their setting relative to the first six. Music Box of Memories assumes they all take place within the same year.
Come to think of it, Runa and Takako in the visual novels have very little connections to the others. The V.N.’s of most other couples all either reference or have cameos of each other somewhere. I guess it makes a difference that both Runa and Takako aren’t part of the St. Michael’s high school student body.
Indeed, that’s one of the reasons I was also thinking they may take place during different times. Though I haven’t played 9 so I don’t know if there are any cameos in that.
Hopefully as more VNs are released, we’ll see more cameos and references. I kind of like noticing all those little things. It’s fun.

In this case, the owner got all of the backgrounds, character models, and all of the scenes, without the text, and uploaded them as pictures. So you can mess around with them if you would like, or see them without having to load the game.

Interesting to note here though that the timeline of these stories begin in the year 2033 in November. Is this the actual canon time of the whole Hanabira series? Or is this just a side story which is not canon to the series at all I wonder…
Personally, I don’t think so because so far in the series, I have not once saw any of the pairings use any futuristic devices of any sort in the visual novels. The Hanabira stories in Xenocross then must be a story that is not canon to the original visual novels, what do you guys think?

We’re not given–if I recall correctly–the exact time period the visual novels take place. (Note, I’m making this comment purely from memory, so if there was an indicator of time, then just ignore me.) So the visual novels could indeed take place around 2033, and Xenocross could still be canon. At the very least, it’s official.
But it is drawn by a different author though, or it could be a collaboration of ideas that come up so that this is actually a cross-over story or some kind…
Music Box of Memories is a side story and is not meant to be canonical. It attempts to reconcile the whole of the Sonohana canon as the author discovered inconsistencies amongst the visual novels. To quote the Xenography, “‘Music Box of Memories’ isn’t the only place where the girls from ‘Petals’ will be featured. All of these events will lead up to ‘Heirs to Dämmerung’.” For this and other reasons I cannot comment on at this time, Music Box of Memories is set during the arbitrary year 2034 and assumes that the events of all of the official products take place the year prior. The visual novels themselves do not comment on the time they take place, but a side character in Beloved Photograph says that the advent of Web 2.0 is on the horizon, which suggests to me that the stories take place in the mid 2000s. That said, that comment is never corroborated nor is its implications explored beyond the scene this character is in.
Two of the Comiket extra volumes feature direct interactions between Mai, Reo, Shizuku, and Eris, but these are non-canon as well. Eden of Xeno could potentially translate the Comiket volumes if there is enough demand for them.
Yeah, I had a hunch that the time period would be around 2000-2010. So what you are saying is that this particular story would lead up to another story on Xenocross right?

The events of Music Box of Memories are a bridge between Fuguriya’s story and future events in Xenocross that I am not at liberty to discuss. Recall that the full title of the doujinshi is “Xenocross INTERMEZZO – Music Box of Memories”.

Sara isn’t really kinky tbh. Heck the entire Sara x Kaede relationship is pretty tame compared to the others. But no votes at all sure is weird.

An English translation of the light novel Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo – Natsu wo Gyutto ne! has been added to Xenocross Volume 3 under the name Seize The Summer!
In the canon of Music Box of Memories, this light novel takes place during chapter two. Mai and Reo are visiting the former’s grandmother during this time and are scheduled to return on the day of filming as noted by Takako, explaining their absence there.
I’m really starting to wonder why I have not picked up Xenocross yet…

Hi Adrenaline. I’m not quite sure what you’re asking. There is only one English patch for each game. They might be split up into multiple download files. In that case, you would need to download all parts. Go to the link for the patch to find instructions on how to install them. Good luck.
A small note about the canon of some of the stories:
When Mai and Reo first go to Reo’s apartment, Reo idly comments about the arrival of Sara in the third game, and in the fifth, Mai says she heard about Kaede’s makeover a little earlier that day (shortly after the start of the novel) – from this we can indeed conclude that their relationships progress in parallel – Kaede and Sara meet about the same time Mai and Reo become a pair, and the second novel ‘ends’ as the fifth ‘starts’.
I love little details like this, they really tie together the world of the story.
(Aside – while Yuuna cameos in both pairs’ stories, no defining events on her relationship with Nanami are given. However, considering about a month [as far as I am aware] passes between her meeting Yuuna and catching her ‘Matsubaring’ [golly that was awful], their progression is likely close to the other two pairs’. Nothing tying Runa and Takako to this, but I believe Shizuku and Eris meet after the sixth game, from what I can interpret, since hints at Eris’ arrival are presented by Yuuna then.)

I checked the first novel, and it says two months after. So Yuuna and Nanami don’t really pick up for a while after the later two pairings, it seems. So it seems to go:
Mai + Reo ~ Kaede + Sara > Nanami + Yuuna > Shizuku + Eris, with Runa and Takako somewhere around there. Or possibly even years apart… we have no way of knowing.

Ooh yes! These are the kind of details I love. I made a note of it in one of my reviews as well—I think it was for the sixth—about how these minor mentions and guest appearances by other characters really builds the world. I never noticed or put together the timing though. Good spot, Aelesis!

There are a few other yuri visual novels like Aoi Shiro or Katahane. Those have a more involved plot, but are very nice. There’s also another, Yukkuri Panic, but that one is quite… hardcore.
If you’re interested, there’s a recommendation page on this site, whose comments are a chaotic mess of visual novels, games, anime, manga, and other yuri related stuff.
Yukkuri Panic was a little on the extreme side and WAY TOO hardcore. The arcade version is fun and all, but the actual VN story is what is too extreme. But it’s still okay and a leetle worth it.
Yes I agree. I found it to be more hardcore than I expected, and I think most would as well. Still, for those into that genre (heavy mind games, bondage, and training themes), this would be quite a delight. Otherwise, a panic.

Yup, I did it. Was originally made for a Christmas competition where no-one would even know of Sono Hanabira and then I changed it to suit those who do know Sono Hanabira (just wording and such like that). I was quite late in posing it but eventually got it out.

Heh… I was going through things and I’ve seen people frustrate over how Hanabira can’t be made to displayu accented characters. Well, I was thinking things through, and I gotta ask, if that is the case, why hasn’t anyone decided to recompile Hanabira into Renpy? I mean, the CGI and audio are easy enough to obtain…
I would imagine it’s mostly because patching and display isn’t as much of a priority as simply getting translations for the fansub groups. Or maybe people don’t know about Renpy. (I didn’t.)
Anyway, thanks for bringing it up, and hopefully, those interested will see this and put into their considerations.
Attempts at porting the engine to Ren’Py have been attempted before, but ultimately these were dropped for lack of developer interest. If I were to try doing this, I would work on a single engine for the entire series that accepts assets for all current releases. It would have English translations for all visual novels but not run without graphic and audio data for each visual novel, similar to how MAME includes support for many arcade games but does not include any ROMs.
Yeah, have a separate launch folder for each game and that way, you just have to have someone localize the script. And better yet, it’s no hassle at all compared to working using a specialized engine.
Excuse me, I wanted to ask something, I read Hanabira 5&7 with english patch before and not like other hanabira’s series,this two has “Halfway END” in the ending and I see that the CG was not all completed, is it because its missing a part or something? thanks 😀
You need to make different choices. With the right combination, you’ll get the true end.
I downloaded the one which already got its english patch combined with the VN,so I dont need to download any english patch,but its a halfway end for SH 4&7 , then again I tried to download the VN on Japanese version,then add the english patch in it for SH 4 but still a halfway end,is there any more choice for it to get the true end? thanks 😀

On a related note, part of the reason this page has been so successful is because this has been established as the place people come to for info.
I can easily set one up and considered doing so in the past, but I decided against so for two reasons, both related to Sonohana itself. When this page was created and the number of comments overtook the average number of comments on this blog, I felt the franchise wasn’t yet large enough to warrant the amount of discussion that a normal forum would require. With the amount of products currently available, this is no longer the case. However, the second reason is that I would host the forum myself and the owner of the server that hosts my blogs and files has expressly disallowed me from holding court to explicit imagery, which a series like this easily lends itself to. To get around this, I would need to disallow image embedding and links, which I feel would stifle discussion. I also know of no other hosts that would allow this, and if I were to open a forum, it would have to be on a free service.
Yeah, that’s true. Re-directing the huge amount of people that use the page to somewhere new would probably be quite difficult if we were to set up something else as well.
I’ve thought about having a forum before early on when I started blogging, but that idea eventually went away because I have no idea how to set one up…

That’s a very good point. Almost all the free hosting services (all of the ones I know of) disallow explicit imagery too, although if we were to enforce censoring or off-site linking or something for anything explicit whatsoever it may be circumventable.

It is fully translated but still in QC and editing over at yuriproject. Same with SonoHana 6 btw. If you don’t want to wait until the patches are out just go to their wiki and have the script and game side by side. Worked well for me.

Okay, since my Heavy Rain and Sono Hanabira crossover fanfiction isn’t coming along so smoothly, I ‘ve decided to begin writing a script for a Fan created Non-canon RPG that features all of the Sono Hanabira characters and my original characters.I have yet to create a story of any kind. I want it to have the battle system similar to that of the Mario & Luigi RPG series. In this game, the story will feature all of the characters of Sono Hanabira and each couple will have their own story. Each character will have battle techniques unique to that character, and each couple will have team attacks unique to each couple. Level Up system, yadda yadda. The basics of RPGs exist in this game. If my studio ever gets around to making it. We are already making a Visual Novel, so this project may take years to get to, if we can.

Tasuketekudasai, guess there`s something wrong with the two parts of {Anata to koibito tsunagi retake}. They are featured like files which cannot be opened, though the dimension is RAR, the icon is not the one of WINRAR archiver{a pile of several books}, but just a blank sheet which means I don`t have an actual program to open them

Sorry for bothering you with my problems again.
To begin with, when I played the eighth part of sonohana, I played it all through but there still were 4 or 5 CG missing from EXTRA. I tried different combinations, however, the plot was all linear and those CG wouldn`t get unsealed. I thought there was some data missing in the game which I had downloaded via torrent, and decided to download the one from here. But when I extracted the files and ran HANABIRA 8, I was disappointed to find out there was no music, despite the bgm file being in the folder.
I would greatly appreciate your advice on this situation.
Check if the BGM is actually turned on and up in the game options, I remember vaguely that it wasn’t in one of the downloads, might’ve been this one. About the CG, are you sure you got the full ending? Always pick the first choice.

May I ask whats the differences between the remake of SH3 and the original one?
If I recall correctly, the script is the same, but voices, BGM, and backgrounds are updated.

Yea, that does sound better. You know, I did notice the translation of the title feels off when I added the eighth to the index, However, it’s unfortunate how “official” translations are often not the most fitting one, but still the one we’d use. “Official” in so much as they are a legitimate place that distributes the game.
As some of you might have noticed, after Procyon’s post on the yuriproject wiki, I made an executive decision as the editor for the game, and I have Hyarare’s approval, as well. I’ve changed the sub-title of the game to Dyed with an Angel’s Petals for reasons described at http://nsfw.yuriproject.org/res/649.html#1316 I think it fits both the attitude of the game and the themes written by Fuguriya.
If any of you guys have any references to the old sub-title “Petal-Colored Angel” I would like to ask you to change it to “Dyed with an Angel’s Petals” as that is what all of the English typesetting will display during gameplay.

Just 2cents from me though; The next time if you guys (or girls) wants to translate some Japanese words or sentences, please, do not use google translate. Some japanese words have both literal and deep meanings. Be careful with this matter as Japanese like to use idioms and puns in their anime, vn, manga, songs, and dramas.

I’d like to note once again that no one here was involved in the original translation of the title “Petal-colored Angel.” I am merely endorsing the only official translation (official in the sense that they have a license to sell the game) available right now, however wrong the translation may seem, until the fan patch is out.

Also included is a translation of the Comiket 77 extra volume, The Bud Has Thorns, which was released for free alongside this light novel.

Sorry for the ultimate noobing about to happen in this post…
At some point last year, I acquired the first VN from here, played it successfully, etc. But now that I’ve come back wanting another, I can’t remember how the heck I was able to end up playing it successfully. I downloaded the 2nd but only have a .rar and just…well, don’t have any idea what to do next. Normally I’d look through the comments to see if there’s already help posted, but 1,500+ comments is quite a trip.
Any help would be much appreciated.
(In case it’s not obvious, I’m not much of a VN player and have next to no experience in this area)
Download the patch for the VN by following the link in the blog post, unpack the rar with the game files (using a program like 7zip or winrar), run the patch and follow the on-screen instructions, then run the VN through the shortcut on the desktop or start menu. Easy peasy.
Or, if there are no shortcuts, go into the unpacked directory and run the HANABIRAX.exe there. If you are using Windows Vista/7 you might want to run this in Windows XP compatibility mode (right click on the exe, properties, compatibility tab, check the “run this program in compatibility mode” box, select Windows XP.) Otherwise it might freeze if you switch between windows a lot.
You can bet I felt like a complete idiot when I realized I had forgotten the unpacking step…I guess that’s what happens when my new computer doesn’t already have WinRAR. Thanks for the quick response.

The closest I can think of right now is a short little work: Sugar’s Delight. Besides that, there is also Yukkuri Panic, but that one is much more hardcore. As well there are two longer works I highly recommend: Aoi Shiro and Katahane. Those are the yuri v.n.’s I can think of off the top of my head. Enjoy!
