Recommendations

Lately, I’ve been getting several recommendations in the comments and via email. I’ve decided to make this page for everyone to make recommendations to me or to others. ^ ^

So if you have a recommendation, feel free to post in the comments! And maybe a few words on why it is good. ^ ^

They can be anything: anime, manga, visual novels, books, games, music, yuri, or anything else!

    Seven Days with the Ghost

Not Sono Hanabira but pretty related: http://yuri.saiin.net/top.html. Five heroines in this one, so it’s more like a mainstream VN structure-wise, but from the looks of it and the limited translation I’ve seen we may have another winner on our hands once it gets released.

Seven Days With The Ghost has been released. It’s available for free from multiple mirrors. Click on a “インデックスページ” link to download.

Asagi Ryu’s “I Fell in Love for the First Time” from “Girl’s Sanctuary”

“I Want To Be Honest!” had seven chapters and a short epilogue. They’re all collected in the “Girl’s Sanctuary” anthology, along with the fourth chapter of “I Fell In Love For The First Time”. Of these, only the first chapter of the former has been translated, and all of the latter has been translated as of this writing.

    Katahane

A partial patch for Katahane is up, for those interested. By the way, Hi, Yi.

    Swordwind

    • dclives says:

I’ve tried installing this game 3 times today. I haven’t even used the patch yet. I’m able to run the game fine using applocale but when I try to start the story I hear a voice but no text shows up and the entire game freezes up…

      • Swordwind says:

I don’t know what to tell you. Installing the game itself isn’t any more difficult than installing any other game, really. I’d guess that applocale just doesn’t cut it in this case. Try changing the unicode settings.

      • choco says:

In Katahane case, you need to set ur PC in Japanese Loc completely (it’s a must, actually, for the game to run smoothly).
Uhm… you dun need to install the game, just extract the DVD in a folder.
If I remember correctly, you need to use the katahane.exe instead of ‘katahane-in-katagana’
And in my case, i need to rename the folder into Latin Alphabet too.
The patch is completely translated. Just a little more editing, but you can already play fine with the current one.
Ah, you need to update to v1.1.0 before applying the English patch.

It’s a wonderful game. The OP is super and character design is very nice.

(some ppl say it’s bc they invested too much in the OP that they went backrupt after just one game, i dunno if it’s true. but it’s a funny proof for how good the OP is)
The ecchi-scenes are good too. I recommend it to everyone who is older than 18, of course. Here CG set for curious ppl (and those who are wondering how much yuri in Katahane)
        megaupload.com/?d=Y437CR34
(I can say it’s more than aoishiro and not less than Sonohana, I wont spoil more than that)

        If you still have prb, just comment, we may find out a solution together ^^;;

        • Yi says:

          They’re bankrupt? I didn’t know that! That’s terribly unfortunate. What a shame. 😦
The OP is lovely for sure. One of the best I’ve seen in visual novels. And the CGs are incredibly beautiful as well.

Anyway, super bummed out Tarte is gone…

        • Overlord-G says:

So what you’re saying is that I have to copy/paste all the files from the DVD into a folder and set the unicode to Japanese, right? I don’t need to install the game?

  4. Yi says:

    Aoi Shiro

I think the eighth has also been translated into Chinese. Check the links on this page.
Also, some other good ones worth checking out are Aoi Shiro and Katahane. I’m not sure what the status on Katahane is, and I think Aoi Shiro has been translated by the lovely Shijima from Wings of Yuri.

I’m having some troubles getting to play this. Every time I try to get past the first few sentences it crashes. Any suggestion on how to stop it crashing. By the way I have windows 7 as my operating system.

From the date I just posted, Hidan no Aria just aired its 1st episode today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the light novels so yeah. In English I believe it would be called Aria the Scarlet Ammo.
Hope you like it, im looking forward to how the anime adaptation goes =)

    • Yi says:

I think I’ll wait on this. Not exactly sure if this is my thing, so I’ll probably check it out after more initial impressions for the anime come out.

  7. Ristlin says:

How about watching higurashi – when they cry?

I personally loved the show because of the fantastic atmospherem, the way the story leads the watcher to make him think that he knows everything but then offering the solution and completely blows him away in the revelations. The characters are also extremely likeable and there are certain elements that show up when watching with yuri goggles O.o

    • Yi says:

Good suggestion. I have seen it before in the past and really enjoyed the whole series. I do still have to watch Umineko though, so yea. This reminds me to finish that up.

I don’t actually remember too many yuri subtext, but then again, I didn’t have the sort of goggles I have today.

      Anyway, thanks!

      • Overlord-G says:

The yuri goggle worthy moments are mostly noticeable in a certain story arc and in the 3rd OVA season’s last episode.

        • Yi says:

I think I can remember one arc where there’s some sisterly love.

Anyway, have yet to watch the OVA, so yea. Will check it out for completion of this series.

      • nick says:

Don’t watch the Umineko anime, the adaptation sucked to hell. The visual novels are far far better. You can get them from amiami, and the translation patch at witch-hunt.com.

        • Yi says:

I’ll add Umineko to the visual novel list.

As for the anime, I’m six episodes in, so I think I’ll try to finish it… some day.

        • Nick says:

You should play the visual novels before watching the anime, the anime is basically a watered down version of the VNs, sometimes to the point where a lot of stuff doesn’t make sense. There’s also a few things left out in the anime that actually turns out to be an important part of the story in the later games.

        • Yi says:

          I see I see.

“the anime is basically a watered down version of the VNs… a few things left out in the anime ”
Adaptations tend to have that unfortunate consequence. 😦

        • MyHatsOffToYou says:

          HAHAHA

Wish I’ve seen your post sooner.

The ending feels so off and overdramatic in a silly way that it ruins everything the anime built (if it did build anything) before. I felt like it’s slightly waste of time after finishing the anime…….

Not sure if I’ll try the VN at all since the screen shot looks odd compared to average anime/VN/manga drawings

        • Yi says:

Now I’m not really looking forward to finishing Umineko. 😦

  8. @fkeroge says:

Have you seen [C]? I don’t know if business in the form of creature battles is your thing, but I sure am hooked!

Denpa Onna has the usual, trippy SHAFT animation, as well as the really cute Erio.

Also, Ano Hana seems to be great. Lots of tear-jerker potential. Love it!

  9. Swordwind says:

I’d add Akaiito to the visual novel list, Yi~

Steins;Gate seems pretty good so far, but isn’t even mildly approaching Yuri. Madoka wouldn’t count as currently airing, would it?

    • Yi says:

Oh yea Akai Ito. I tend to forget about this one because it’s not on PC. I don’t own any consoles, so I’ve never had a chance to play it. But as a sister game to Aoi Shiro, it deserves a big mention.

I’ll be checking out Steins;Gate for sure. It got my attention in preview seasons, so yea.

I’ll count Madoka as currently airing for now. The last two episodes are coming out on April 21st.

Thanks for the recs. ^ ^

      • Swordwind says:

I’m sure I’ve mentioned solutions to the console problem, but I’d understand if you didn’t want to pursue them…it’s a bit of a pain. I think I actually prefer Akai Ito to Aoishiro, though.

Sorry to give you more work.

        • Yi says:

Hm… Forgive me, but I don’t remember the solution. I think I’d be interested in it. If you don’t mind and have the time, can I ask for a link to the work around?

        • Swordwind says:

          Of course I’ll forgive you.

          http://pcsx2.net/downloads.php
This emulator has developed to the point that you should have little trouble running VNs on it, even with a mediocre computer. BIOs and the .ISO files can be found at the typical sites – if you want me to go into detail, feel free to ask me to email you. Guides to actually setting up the emulator are on the site.

The sites with the translation for all routes save Sakuya’s…
          http://akaiitotranslation.com/
          http://digitalmedia.arts.ufl.edu/~kmcgo/Akaiito/

As a result of site issues in both sites, both links are useful. The translator is the same. There were reports of attempts to actually hack the translation into the game, but I believe they’ve been stalled.

        • Yi says:

          Awesome!!

Aoi Shiro has really piqued my interest in Akai Ito. I’ll have to make some time for this soon.

        • Swordwind says:

If you can, I think you’d enjoy it; if you can’t, I’d understand all the same.

        • Skarlath says:

Well leaving a reply here if anyone’s wondering…I was an ex-QCer for the Akai Ito translation for a while, until i lost contact with the original translator. Last time i spoke with Zohar was about half a year ago, and s/he was intending to get out the translation for Sakuya’s route and the lines i fixed out by August.

And also I recommend using http://digitalmedia.arts.ufl.edu/~kmcgo/Akaiito/ instead of the other website suggested by Swordwind, since the pages haven’t finished being re-encoded and transferred to the new website.

And one last thing: http://www.youtube.com/user/Shizukadamare#p/u/9/kDt-Pr1spkg <– this person has managed to hack into the game engine and insert the text, however yet again there's been no progress for a while, which may or may not say anything. Guess that's it for now…oh and first time posting here, but after reading through a bit of your blog, you've got another fan here Yi. ^^ Though i may not post that much at all….

        • Yi says:

          Thanks for the links, Skarlath!

And thank you for dropping by and reading. It really means a lot to me. You’re awesome, doll. ^ ^

    • Yi says:

I’ve decided to pick up Steins;Gate. It started slow, but things are getting much more interesting. Good suggestion. ^ ^

  10. JbstormburstADV says:

As I’ve said before, pick up Battle Doll: Angelic Layer by CLAMP, specifically the anime. It’s a well made series and there are quite a few subtle shoujo-ai moments.

Also, if we’re talking visual novels, you can’t truly say you’re a VN fan until you’ve played Tomoyo After ~It’s a Wonderful Life~, as most consider it one of KEY’s best works. Unfortunately, Baka-Tsuki has only come out with a 40% partial patch so far for the 18+ version. However, if you know KEY, you absolutely do know that the artwork is amazing, not to mention it actually does have a DEEP plot. So try it.

    • Yi says:

I remember your strong recommendation earlier. Definitely keeping those in mind for when I have a lot of time. Seem very interesting!!

  11. dclives says:

I just watched the second episode of A Channel. It’s a cut yuri-ish anime revolving around four highschool girls. I recommend anyone who likes this type of show to check it out. Doki is currently subbing it in English weekly.

  12. Accelerator says:

It seems that swordwind and dclives have beaten me to the recommendations…

The only things left I can think of that are relatively new are:
Hana-Saku Iroha (I have a knack that you’ll like this one)
    and
Ano Hi Mita Hana No Namae O Bokutachi Wa Mada Shiranai (Remotely sad, then again, im the worst judge of that)

Unless of coarse, someone has also beaten me to them.

    • Yi says:

I’m watching HanaIro right now, and yes, LOVING IT!!

As for AnoHana… I’m still not sure if I’ll pick it up. I’ve heard a lot of really good things about it though.

  13. Jo says:

Just a heads-up..New Soutaiseiriron album is out.. called ‘Tadashii’..
Has some new stuff and some remixes (most are good and the others are interesting ^^)
and no, the track names aren’t a mistake…

    =)

    • Yi says:

Awesome!! Thanks for the news. I love this group. ^ ^

Anyway, gave the album a quick listen, and it’s really nice. I’ve found my new jogging playlist.

  14. Overlord-G says:

Here’s a recent VN that piqued my interest and played last night, “don’t take it personally, babe, it just isn’t your story”. Stop by the castle to get a lowdown of what to expect from this game. It might just pique your interest. It certainly left an impression on me.

  15. Accelerator says:

  16. fathomlessblue says:

On the odd chance you haven’t seen it, I’d really recommend trying out the anime Simoun when you have the time.

It’s a 26 ep sci fi series concerning a war between two nations, which on paper might not traditionally sound your sort of thing; however, the show’s main strength is the characterisation given to the (mostly) female cast, of which most of the show is devoted to. I don’t think I’ve encountered a better cast of characters in a long, long time. Oh, and naturally theres some heavy yuri vibes going on as well.

ExecutiveOtaku wrote a couple of articles over at THAT which sell the series far better than I could if your interested. It’s definitely worth checking the first 3-4 episodes (the first ep isn’t the best but it quickly improves) to see if it’s your thing.

    • Yi says:

Great recommendation. In fact, Simoun is the most common recommendation I get ever. So yep yep. Adding it to my list, and pushing it up.

p.s. Thanks! You’ve sold me. ^ ^ I was quite put off by the heavy sci-fi war stuff initially, but I think I’ll give this a try.

      • Well I hope you enjoy, when you have time to watch the show.

I’m a little reserved at recommending shows, especially those that are hyped up; mostly you raise expectations, which lead to disappointment. Simoun, on the other hand came out of nowhere for me; I hadn’t really anything about it, but it really surprised me. Nothing, whether plot, characters, ending etc, go the way you expect. It’s really refreshing seeing a show avoid the usual cliché stepping stones, despite probably losing a large audience as a result. It’s a really shame so few anime these days take similar risks.

        • Yi says:

I think I will. And I think I am going to watch this next, right after I catch up to Hanairo, Steins;Gate, Gosick, and Sengoku Otome, which shouldn’t be too long.

I’m actually very excited about this. Thank you, fathomlessblue~ ^ ^

  17. Swordwind says:

Yamiyo ni Odore is kinda fun. VN with some gameplay (that is kidna clunky at first), and you get to choose the protagonist’s gender. Because both the female MC and the male MC have the same set of heroines, choosing the girl protagonist results in overt yuri.

    • Yi says:

Ooh, awesome! Looked it up and it looks very promising. Haven’t really been playing too much VN lately, but I’ll definitely jump on this, especially since there is overt yuri. So thank you.

    • Anonymous says:

this game is really awesome but to bad no english patch yet, hoping that the english patch will appear soon. i finish the ayaka route with female version in Japanese patch.

  18. choco says:

As for yuri anime, i strongly recommend El Cazador
    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7509
The yuri-ness isn’t accentuated, but very nice and warm. Plus Ai Shimizu’s voice there was so cute.
You may have known these: Strawberry Panic (Tamao-chan), Mai-Hime (Mikoto), Saki (Hajime), Magical Nanoha (Suzuka)… Together with Shizuka Itou, I really like the chemistry in their voice acting.

The OST was made by Yuki Kajiura (who also did the OST for Madoka Magica).

…. Suddenly now, I start to think that you already watched it… if so, my apologize.

    • Yi says:

I’ve actually seen El Cazador, as well as the whole Beetrain girls-with-guns trilogy. I like El Cazador’s two spiritual predecessors (Noir, Madlax) more, but I still had fun with El Cazador. Yuki Kajiura’s music is really lovely. I love her works. And of course, the light yuri is very nice as well.

Anyway, please don’t apologize for making a good recommendation! Thank you so much~ ^ ^

      • choco says:

Hehe, I just thought u must have watched way more yuri anime than me… mah, I’m glad that you didnt mind.
Ah, I’ve watched Madlax after El Cazador though. Maybe because the after-effect of EC is too strong, I cudnt enjoy Madlax as much. Well, in EC we have happy end while Madlax is some sort of open ED, which is really not my kind.
When I discovered that Yuki Kajiura made all those OST (I looked for her name after El Cazador), I became her fan. She is awesome: there are animes I dun like, but I do like the OST, in particular Mai-Hime. After then, I was like in paradise when I got to know she composed musics and songs for Madoka.

How about Morita-san wa Mukuchi ? Again, yuri isnt main theme, but still, some sweet scenes b/w all high-school girls. PV:

(what’s more interesting is that the boys in the anime actually enjoys the yuri-ness and get jealous of the girls who can do that w/o any worries).
Only OAV for the moment, but it seems they are gonna make a TV Series.

        • Yi says:

Oh yes Yuki Kajiura is the best! She is probably my favorite anime soundtrack composer. My first one is actually Noir (which is also my favorite of the Beetrain Trilogy). After Noir, I fell so in love with the soundtrack, I went on a Kajiura binge: Mai Hime, Paradise Kiss, Madlax, Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, .Hack, Mai Otome, and so many others. Even today, I try to watch as many Kajiura as I can, including Madoka.

Anyway, I don’t know if you’ve seen Noir, but that’s definitely one of my favorite anime of all time. It’s a little older, but if you haven’t, I’d recommend it.

I haven’t heard of Morita-san wa Mukuchi, but it does look interesting. It’s just an OAV too, for which I can easily make time.

“(what’s more interesting is that the boys in the anime actually enjoys the yuri-ness and get jealous of the girls who can do that w/o any worries).”
Loll! Now, that is interesting for sure!! Thanks!!

      • MyHatsOffToYou says:

Well personally, I wouldn’t recommend Madlax at all. I found the entire anime a waste of time. Somehow it got fairly good reviews though. I know different people have different opinion; maybe I’m just a weirdo in this world >.>

From the entire Beetrain collection, I only liked the El Cazador de la Bruja. Everything else either bored me or the plot ending pisses me off……..

        • choco says:

well, I watched Madlax bc of El Cazador. But it wasnt as I expected.
As for girl-with-gun anime, I think Gunslinger Girl is the best, though no yuri.
          The music is super too.

        • Yi says:

@MyHatsOffToYou: I felt somewhat different about the Beetrain triology. My favorite by far is Noir. I found both Madlax and El Cazador far less interesting. Between those two, I think I lean towards El Cazador being the better one the more I think about it, even though initially, I found Madlax better.

“Somehow it got fairly good reviews though. I know different people have different opinion; maybe I’m just a weirdo in this world >.>”
Not at all. In fact, most reviews I’ve read on Madlax, including my opinion, don’t really favor Madlax. It’s a bit of a plot mess.

@choco: Gunslinger Girl is certainly one of the best girls-with-guns anime. I wrote a review of the second season, Il Teatrino, some time ago where I highly praised the series. It’s also one of my favorite anime ever alongside Noir. And yes, the music is super!

  19. Overlord-G says:

You know what’s sad about this year so far? It’s the fact that the best yuri kiss scene that I’ve seen BY FAR, was the one between Akane and Mikoto in one of the Kampfer Specials. You’ll know which one it is, it’s the one where Natsuru ISN’t running through a cornfield (Still one of the dumbest super power origin stories ever). Anyway, for those who are curious and are preparing preparing to lay the smackdown on the 2nd episode of Kuttsukiboshi coming soon, this should satisfy your naughty mode for a minute or two. Actually the whole episode was filled with yuri goodness, sadly it isn’t the romantic kind. Ah well. Don’t ask questions about the plot, chracters or anything, just enjoy the show. That is all.

If only Rio-Rainbow Gate had stepped up and made Rio X Rina canon on screen instead of teasing us by censoring the love scenes behind closed doors. No fair.

That’s it for now. I’m out, peace.
    http://www.watchanimeon.com/kampfer-fur-die-liebe-episode-2/

    • Yi says:

Yea, not that many great yuri anime have been released in recent seasons. Luckily I still have a huge backlog of yuri classics that I need to watch.

I’m not watching Kampfer (and likely won’t every pick it up.) But I did check out the link… And those were some really really nice yuri scenes~

Totally forgot about Kuttsukiboshi. I hesitate to jump into it right now because of how spaced apart the episodes are from each other. I think I’ll just wait until the whole things out before I watch it.

Also, Rio-Rainbow Gate’s on my radar. Maybe one of these days.

Anyway, thanks for the link! It was a nice, heated way to pass a quick few minutes! ^ ^

      • Overlord-G says:

That’s all you needed to watch of the entire Kampfer series. That 20+ minutes was better than the entire series combined.
Anyway, I’ll keep you posted on Kuttsukiboshi. I also hope Rio-Rainbow Gate won’t upset you when you watch it.

        • Yi says:

I don’t think it will. From what I’ve read on Rio, while it doesn’t sound incredibly amazing, I don’t think it will be that upsetting.

“Anyway, I’ll keep you posted on Kuttsukiboshi.”
Thanks! Let me know how that goes. ^ ^

    • yunra says:

Kuttsukiboshi 2nd episode is coming out? Oh my, the first episode’s ending made me frustrated, so I’m actually looking forward to the second to see how the story will go.

      • Yi says:

“the first episode’s ending made me frustrated”

That seems to be the common reaction to episode 1. And it’s the reason I’m so hesitant about picking this up. Even with a second episode coming out, I think I’ll wait on this.

        • Overlord-G says:

That’s the thing about Kuttsukiboshi, the cliffhanger was such an unexpected and crushing low blow to the yuri nation that many people who saw it went on a rampage. 1 year later the conclusion will be revealed and I personally have been eagerly waiting to tear a new blowhole on this sucker. Very soon this show will feel my wrath, unless it somehow patches the wound it made last year, which won’t be easy I can tell you that.

        • Yi says:

I usually don’t mind cliffhangers so much, but to wait a year in between is just kind of too much. It’s not so much I can’t wait, but more like I wouldn’t care after a year. Well, I guess we’ll have to see how this one goes.

  20. Sakurai_Hideru says:

Code Geass, Toradora, and Gundam 00. Watch them alright?

    • Yi says:

One at a time! I’ll try to find time for Toradora. Code Geass might not make it. And I’m not at all interested in Gundam (not much of a mecha fan).

      • Overlord-G says:

Out of all the 3 he mentioned,I’d go with Toradora since I’m not a mechaholic either. Then again, mainstream shows don’t particularly interest me that much, which means Code GEASS is not on my watchlist.

        • Yi says:

I’ve sort of avoided Code Geass for a while now because I just can’t seem to get that interested in the main character… That said, I know nothing about the series, and my opinion is completely based on nothing but random assumptions.

  21. Sakurai_Hideru says:

Wow I had exactly the same thoughts as you regarding Code Geass, always putting it off cuz it just didn’t seem interesting enough. But after watching the 1st season, I deeply regretted putting it off so long. You won’t regret it if you pick this up, has an awesome story, just awesome. And I’ve yet to finish the 2nd season…

I have to warn you two mecha-haters though, Code Geass has mecha. Lots and lots of mecha. So in the end maybe you two won’t even try to watch it… Kinda sad really, it is mainstream for a reason you know…

    • Yi says:

Oh, So Code Geass is mecha… I’m not opposed to all mecha–I did enjoy Escaflowne and Eureka Seven–but I am prejudiced against it. I’m sure it’s really good. Most people I’ve talked to who have seen it have nothing bad to say about it. But I guess it’s just a genre bias on my part.

Well, I still have other stuff I need to finish first, like Simoun, Bakemonogatari, Toradora, and a bunch of others, but I will keep Geass on my mind.

Not sure if someone mentioned this before or not since there’s just too much posts for me to look through on this page…..

I would strongly recommend the K-ON! anime series because of its moe moe comedy and slice of life theme.

I also recommend the Aria the Animeation, the Natural, and the Origination series because of the light, relaxing atmosphere the anime creates.

I wouldn’t call both of these “yuri”, but the strong bond of friendship between the girls in both anime series are quite heartwarming.

    • Yi says:

Very strong recommendations, and both of which I have seen and loved! Aria and K-On! are both among my favorites. I really enjoy slice-of-life / iyashi-kei fluffy heartwarming series.

      Thanks for the recommendation!

“I wrote a review of the second season, Il Teatrino, some time ago where I highly praised the series.”
    In fact, I decided to watch Gunslinger Girls after reading ur review. ^^;;
I downloaded it for a long time before, but cudnt find the courage to watch it. Then, “accidentally”, I read your review so… i finished completely the 2 seasons within 3 days.

I’ve always wanted to watch Noir: everywhere I go, ppl told me if one like one of the trio, one have to watch the other 2 too. Though it’s hard to find a good version (it’s old), in plus it’s licensed. But now, with your recommendation, m gonna download it (I’ll report later).

As for .Hack, have you watched .Hack//Quantum ? It’s released only in Bluray Disc, it’s not aired on TV so not many ppl know it. The anime is pretty cute. The main theme is of course online net game, but as the story involved a group of friends who are high school girls, it’s quite cheerful.

Ah, the duo in BRS (Hanazawa and Sawashiro) voiced in it too.

Also, I recommend Kanamemo, Best Student Council (cute yuri anime), if you havent watched, and Octave – one of my fav yuri manga (it’s an adult manga btw). ^^v

    • Yi says:

.Hack//Quantum is on my list of to-watch anime, mostly for completion of the .Hack series. (I’ve seen Sign, Liminality, and Legend of the Twilight.) I enjoyed Sign and Liminality quite a bit, but not Twilight. Quantum looks pretty good though. And Kana Hanazawa is always nice. ^ ^

I’m actually reading Octave and loving it. I wouldn’t it’s adult though, but of course, my definition of adult is a lot looser. It’s also one of my favorites. Such a realistic portrayal lesbian relationship. I love it.

Best Student Council and Kanamemo will unfortunately have to wait a bit. 😦 Too much stuff on my backlog, and not enough time/ energy.

Thanks for all the suggestions, choco!!!

      • choco says:

I’ve done watching Noir last week, but cudnt find time to report (as I’ve promised). So…
Have to pour out my frustration first…er hem… WHY Nande Wai Chloe has to die??? (I mimic a character in Best Student Council whose name I no longer remember).
I like her personality a lot, even she is a psycho as some mean ppl said. But for me she is an innocent girl and very honest. I was hoping all along they 3 could become friends.
About the plot, it’s nicely done, imo. Except the 3 last eps, everything was so sudden. It’s like the author was forced to end the series this way.
They tried to use a letter left by Noir to clear the ‘clouds’ in their relation, but it seems too forceful. Noir has been acting emotionless all the time, and Mireille was always with a cold attitude. Well, i know Mireille cares about Noir in some ways, but not the other way around.
The ending is like a rupture of the story. They could just leave it an open ending, I’d prefer. Like everyone is back in their own way of life: They left the ritual event behind. Mireille continue to work in underground elsewhere (or even she can work under Soldats). Noir back to her Kirika’s life (she has friends/classmates there after all). And Chloe, a secret bodyguard for Noir as always (if she doesnt have to die).

I think the fact Noir was the predecessor of El Cazador is actually an advantage. It must be just me, but about the development of the story line, El Cazador is smoother and so more logic. It slowly showed us the change in Ellis’, let’s say her common knowledge. With the generous but yet strict Nadie, Ellis starts to learn from the simplest thing about how to treat ppl, animal, how to share the workload etc… to more complex matter, as how to appreciate their ‘misfortune’ for example. I remember Nadie said: “I’m a lucky person, because I dont have anyone like that anymore” (she said sth around that line). Then Ellis replied: “So I’m a fortunate person too, as Professor has died.” (I cant say if I should smile or cry there, but I was clapping).
I will never forget the last line of Rosenberg to Ellis: “I’m envious of you.”
And the OVA is another plus for the story, only Ellis can know the true Nadie ^^;; I found that magnificent.

It’s random, but I didnt know there is yuri in Durarara. I was like ” *o* WTH” when i saw its OVA. It’s just a short moment of fun though.

        Ah, yes, Hanazawa is awesome!
You should check out her King Of Thorn, a good movie: virus, monster, action, illusion, dream world and twin sisters (and no yuri). Or her Book Girl (Bungaku Shoujo): romance, literature (and another theme added by me: beautiful-night-sky art). I started reading the light novels after watching the movie.
Ah, no rush, no rush. I just put them here. You can think about them when the time comes. I know you’re busy with your RL too.

        • Yi says:

          Yay, you watched Noir!

It is quite sad that Chloe dies, but that’s part of the charm of Noir, I think. Noir has this bittersweet air about it. Chloe’s death is part of that charm. And yes, she is just an innocent girl brought up in this unfortunate environment. That only makes her tragic end that much more beautiful.

As for the plot, it’s a bit winding, and not as straight forward as El Cazador (and even El Cazador turned out to be quite confusing as well). Still, I enjoyed it. From a critic point of view, I may be giving Noir too much a break, but I thought even without a strong plot, the story’s atmosphere is just so well done. Noir really worked for me.

Great points on El Cazador. I should probably rewatch it some time in the distant future to pick up on all those details that you pointed out. It’s definitely a more cheerful story, and that’s fun too. And Ellis x Nadie is sooo cute!

I’ve been thinking about watching Bungaku Shoujo actually. I’ve heard lots of good things about it. Didn’t realize Hanazawa is in there. That’s very nice~

Anyway, cheers, Choco. It’s always lovely to hear your thoughts!

  24. yunra says:

Aaahh, Katahane’s translation is progressing nicely, I am (im)patiently waiting for them to finish it. I love the story’s time and place setup, can’t wait! So I was wondering if you will be doing a review on it? No pressure, of course! ^_^

    • Yi says:

Oh yes, definitely going to write a review on Katahane some time, perhaps in two or three weeks. What I have planned so far is a special surprise probably tonight. Then an anime review. And after that, a yuri review (if I finish Katahane before then, I’ll write about it. If not, I might write the review for Hanabira 8 or a yuri manga.) Then probably an anime commentary somewhere in between. Haven’t really made up my mind yet.

  25. choco says:

    They’re bankrupt? I didn’t know that! That’s terribly unfortunate. What a shame. 😦
The OP is lovely for sure. One of the best I’ve seen in visual novels. And the CGs are incredibly beautiful as well.

Anyway, super bummed out Tarte is gone…

    http://vndb.org/p78
They are inactive after Katahane, so I think what ppl said was partially correct.

I’ve been playing it for a while (but lacks of time, I only finished the prologue). The game is cute so far. And what’s interesting, depend on the ACV you choose, the route may switch. Though, overall, not many decisive choices, so we dont have to worry of straying.
I’ll report when I complete one route.
(Ah, I forget to ask if ur playing it too?)

    • Yi says:

I was playing Katahane about half-a-year ago, and then right in the middle of playing and loving it, some things happened in my life that kind of put everything on hold. This summer should be a good time for me to finish the game.

      • Choco Titi says:

I started playing it about that time too, but it didnt work well on win 7 (and damn 64-bit). Then while i finally was able to run the game, there is that “break line” prb, and back then the translation wasnt complete. Now translation 100% but the prb still remains (I think they will fix it in their final patch)
Tarte’s successor, Rococoworks has made 2 new game: same art, same historic feelings, but how can i say… not as interesting.

As, for Visual Novel, you might like to check out Rewrite. It’s cool. The newest Key’s work (Key has done Clannad, Kanon, Air, Little Busters before, if u didnt know them). I fell for it the 1st second I watched the OP. And I purchased the game even it can be played in JP machine only (they tried out new method to block foreign player, but, i believe a crack will exist someday)

I’ve been thinking about watching Bungaku Shoujo actually. I’ve heard lots of good things about it. Didn’t realize Hanazawa is in there.
        That’s very nice~

There are Nana Mizuki, Aya Hirano, Aki Toyosaki, Shizuka Itou in it too. ^^V
        (and music by eufonius)

I’m always afraid that I commented way too much in ur blog. I’m happy that you don’t mind and even encourage me to “spam”.

        Peace

        • Yi says:

I was playing the game raw, which also made my progress pretty slow. Luckily, translation patches have since come out (in both English and Chinese), which should allow me to enjoy it more easily.

Good to see that the spirit of Tarte isn’t completely dead. I’ll be looking forward to more of Rococoworks’s stuff. The OP looks decent, but as you said, nothing too incredible.

I’m usually pretty hesitant about picking up visual novels, because they require quite a bit of time and attention. And so I usually only go for the yuri flavors. Even then, I’ve still gotten quite a big backlog of V.N. So Key’s works will have to wait. All these things I want to try, but can’t really make me wish I didn’t have any real life responsibilities, and my sole job is just to watch anime, read books and manga, play games and visual novels, and blog. But maybe in the next life.

“(they tried out new method to block foreign player, but, i believe a crack will exist someday)”
Oh wow, visual novel companies do that now? I didn’t know that.

Nana Mizuki, Aya Hirano, Aki Toyosaki, Shizuka Itou… That’s quite a cast. Nana Mizuki and Aya Hirano jumps at me especially. I love those ladies. ^ ^

(p.s. I love to talk to people. Also, trust me, to bloggers, there’s never a “comment-too-much.” We thrive on interactions. And most importantly, you sound like a really cool person, so I’m happy to talk to you. ^ ^)

  26. Choco Titi says:

Keke, me too, I download a bunch of VNs but have been playing them extremely slowly ;;;;; VNs do need much more time than any anime/manga (I admire Keima Katsuragi for being able to play 12 games at a time >_<). That's why when an anime comes out, I will just watch the anime and drop the game.
Though Key's are really exception for me: I attack both. Btw, Tomoyo after is Key's work, it's like a R18 spinoff story of Clannad, while Clannad is All Age game. Hehe a spam from Clannad

rotfl I just cant stop laughing no matter how many times I watch this part.
    and another one

Ah, all VNs/eroges have seal, it's only if it's hard to crack or not. When a patch is out, most of times there is already a crack included.

You should check out Lucky Star Live in Budokan (even just a little), Aya Hirano is one of few seiyuu whom I can call Pretty Woman. ^^;; (so check out at least Aya Hirano's performance).
Ah, btw White Album is an anime staring both Aya Hirano and Nana Mizuki, as idols (it's an adaptation of the same title VN). I just say it here (not a recommendation) maybe someday it'll trigger your curiosity.

Suddenly I remember, Hidamari Sketch (from the artist Ume Aoki, who designed Madoka Magica's characters) is also a cute yuri anime. And in Bakemonogatari, the 2nd arc is with a yuri blow.
(Hm… you can say SHAFT produce anime with more or less yuri-ness in their mind).

Last thing, me too, I'm happy to find out ur blog, and have all the talk with you.

    • Yi says:

Loll, those two clips bring smiles to my face. ^ ^ Probably will never watch Clannad, but I’m glad I saw those videos.

Anyway, Aya Hirano is very pretty indeed. I’ll take a look at Lucky Star Live in Budokan. Should be fun.

Bakemonogatari is another I am definitely making time for. I think I started a few episodes already, but things come up and anime gets put in the backseat. I’ll finish it eventually though, I hope.

Thanks for all the recommendations and cool info!!

  27. Jo says:

And another OP by Yakushimaru Etsuko…from the show Mawaru Penguindrum.

    =)

    • Yi says:

Thanks for the heads up, darling. ^ ^
Saw Mawaru Penguindrum last night, and loving it!!

Also, the OP is very very nice indeed. Etsuko Yakushimaru ♥

  28. Sayuri says:

hey umm… i about katahane i can’t get the update 1.10 to work can someone help me? sorry dnt know where else to ask

  29. Choco Titi says:

    that’s how i did:
    – set my PC in Japanese Local and Japanese Language
    – copy and paste the update patch in the Game folder (the game folder mustn’t be in C:\Program Files, if u use vista/7)
    – run the update patch, and it works.
(I guess you can use AppLoc to run the update patch, but m not really sure).

  30. Choco Titi says:

You may have heard about it, but… yes, it’s out!

(VN, arcade style, yuri theme, English available on J-List)
I haven’t played it yet though.

    • Yi says:

How funny you should mention this! I actually played this tonight. It’s… interesting. Very very hardcore, especially compared to Sono Hanabira. It is all yuri and no presence of men at all.

Thanks Choco Titi! Always lovely to hear your recommendations.

      • Choco Titi says:

Ah, you’re welcome. I just started the game now, got “bad ending” immediately (I’m so dump for making that choice, really #_#).

There is a yuri game normally I wouldnt recommend (having picked it up was considered as my biggest mistake), but in any case, if ur curious: Dual Phase is its title.
I was shocked by the ending. ]*o*[

PS: call me choco for short.

        • Yi says:

There are quite a few bad endings, I think. And depending on your taste, they may all be kind of bad ends…

Anyway, I’ll check out Dual Phase to satisfy my curiosity~

          p.s. Sure thing, choc. ^ ^

  31. Choco Titi says:

Uhm… I meant the ‘game over’ choice 🙂
I finally retrieve all the CG (for ADV game). I got stuck with Panic, lvl 3 (the same one as in YT preview)

Dual Phase: it sure triggers your curiosity. I’m curious to know your reaction after it too.

    • Yi says:

Ahh icic. Yea, “game over” is a pretty bad end.
The games are actually kind of challenging, and it’s probably the best part of this eroge. I had fun with them. ^ ^

Anyway, once I get the time to try out Dual Phase, I’ll probably write something (or just mention it somewhere). I won’t get to it any time soon though.

      • Choco Titi says:

Hm… the Sister’s route is weird thu: drama + H + yuri doesn’t sound right at all.
I like character like Midori, but it’s a shame: her route is short and in other routes, she doesnt have many lines. And her seiyuu is bad, it’s like she is reading the script most of the time, even in H-scene. Well, in general it’s not bad for a 7hrs H-yuri-game.

Just random, but i think Fuguriya lacks a twin sister game.

        • Yi says:

I found all the routes to be a bit weird. I was prepared to really like the onee-sama, but the story just takes such ridiculous turns. I ended up not really liking anyone.

        • MyHatsOffToYou says:

          I agree

The onee-sama appears interesting at first; got me even more turned on after seeing how people named her route. The ending feels like they just wanna stuff the maximum amount of sex in minimum amount of time which results in everything getting all bloody and gory (not the CGs, but the texts).

I think I’d love the route more if they made it S in a more romantic way without mushing the internal organs…..

        • Yi says:

I don’t mind playful sadism usually, but yea, it kind of crossed the line when it got a little too gory. 😦

        • MyHatsOffToYou says:

          I love playful sadism!!!

I just don’t usually find good ones since I’m kind of picky about them; such as the artwork has to be cute, yuri or reverse domination only, no extreme content you don’t normally see in S-M…..

          Well I pretty much just announced that I’m a super M huh………

Please don’t look down on me T_T

        • Yi says:

Haha, no one’s going to look down on you for having a sexual appetite. ^ ^

p.s. I think I’m very much of an M too.

        • MyHatsOffToYou says:

In “Real Imouto ga Iru Ooizumi-kun no Baai”, Senoo Miki’s route got some pretty exciting M scenes without the rape/gang up and other extreme stuff. You might wanna try that out

The teacher in “Tenshin Ranman – Lucky or Unlucky!?” was a giant S herself, so you might like to try that out as well

        • Yi says:

Unfortunately, neither is yuri, so I’m going to pass on them.

  32. Choco Titi says:

I found all the routes to be a bit weird.
Oh, so straightforward from you. Well, it’s just a pure H-game, so a no-love-story plot is expected. The main purpose for me to picking this is the stripping game. Just by the way, Dual Phase is weirder.
Midori is the most interesting among all of them: she is able to manipulate Rie, change her pushover personality to a big S. The ending is a surprise for me.
And game to play and delete after, for me.

    • Yi says:

      Agreed, definitely.

    • MyHatsOffToYou says:

Not really related to this topic, but aren’t the S and M stand for servant and master? When they are describing a person, why are the opposite used?

Like the person with a sadistic personality is called S while the masochistic one is called M. Why is that?

    • MyHatsOffToYou says:

umm…..nvm, I think I understand it after posting the last msg…..

      Silly me…..

      • Yi says:

        Hehe~

BDSM stands for bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism. But I’m sure you know that by now. ^ ^

      • Choco Titi says:

Just want to make clear, S=sadist, M=maso, originally used in sex.
But IRL in Japan, S-M is larger (I think bc they already have terms like uke/seme), it’s about one’s personality too: S=more active, M=let’s other decide, for example.
In “liar detector” test in AKBingo (AKB48, yes), question like “You are S/M” is always in the list (that means its not forbidden in idol dictionary, if u know about how strict an idol’s life is).
I 1st discover this Japanese S-M in Liar Game (TV drama S1).
In Maria Holic, the S-M topic is quite bold (hehe, yes I like it). Btw, It’s also a yuri anime (the main character has looked for her yuri harem after all). But it’s just yuri fan-service, not real yuri: she plays M and her roommate plays S, the story is in a all girl high-school, her roommate is actually a boy. Another yuri fan service anime, ppl may already have heard is Kampfer (gender bend tends to be for fan service purpose only).

Only one yuri anime, with gender bend theme, that I really appreciate is Kasimasi. Nice Anime! although I used to not like gender bend theme.

        • Yi says:

As an added point on SM, sadism and masochism extends beyond only the sexual roles not just in Japan. The reason we commonly associate SM with sexual acts is because those are the stories that tend to stick out. But in BDSM culture, SM is not necessarily tied to sex; it can describe roles and attitudes as well. This is true for general usage as well.

        • MyHatsOffToYou says:

          Ahh~~~ Kasimasi…..
It’s not a bad one, but I don’t really find it good either……

I like the Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. Though not a gender bend, but it’s similar in that a boy living a life of a girl

I’ve also seen Kampfer as well recently; not my type of anime. Probably cause the plot isn’t something exceptional (well it IS pretty much purely for fan service) and normal fan services are no longer capable of catching my interest (since I’m just that much of a pervert >:D)

Though most people appear to love Maria Holic, but I found it one of the worst anime ever. Maybe cause I just can’t stand idiots on a retarded level.

        • Yi says:

I think I’m with you, MyHatsOffTOYou. None of those four titles interest me in the least… I guess they’re just not really my thing nor the kind of yuri that gets me excited.

  33. Choco Titi says:

@OverL: So what you’re saying is that I have to copy/paste all the files from the DVD into a folder and set the unicode to Japanese, right? I don’t need to install the game?
Yes, i bet when u dl the game, it’s ISO, right?
    1. Use winrar (or similar) to extract it in a folder. let’s name this folder “katahane”.
    2. Copy the exe from “bin” folder into “katahane”. (if u dun c the exe in the main folder, as i installed it long ago, i dun quite remember)
If u dun wanna set ur pc into Japanese, make sure everything from folder name to file name are in Latin alphabet. And use AppLoc to run the exe.
    3. For the translation patch to work, update the game (use the patch provided on tlwiki). AppLoc must be able to be of use too.
    4. Use the translation patch, do as instructions.
They are at 100% of everything now. Only have to wait for their coming back from holidays and so we have the complete patch. The patch released on Apr 22nd has the break-line prb fixed btw.

PS: if ur gonna play more VN, just set ur pc completely in Japanese mode.

    • Overlord-G says:

Very well, I’ll figure that out later. Thanks for the help. Oh, and Dual Phase is evil…so very evil…yet I can’t look away. I would curse you for promoting it, but it’s my own fault for opening Pandora’s Box. Escalation’s alright. Not too bad.

      • Choco Titi says:

About Dual Phase, gomen nasai m(-.-)m though i did say it was a big mistake of mine for picking it up.
        I was tricked too: http://vndb.org/g82?fil=lang-en
(see? it has the best score in yuri-game, so i checked it out as the most natural thing to do and T,T)
You can see sonohana are among top 10 there too.
Some note about game withing +2.0:
        – Moon is not bad as a game, but for a yuri game, not worthy. It’s a Key’s work during their Tactics days.
        – X-change is gender bend (more or less similar to Kampfer).
        – Katahane u know it
        – Koihime is talked about a lot, though I havent played it yet.

  34. Overlord-G says:

I plan on writing a simplistic review of Yukkuri Panic ADV for kicks since I can’t get the other mode to work for some reason. Maybe I’ll wait till I get 7 Ultimate installed.
-Sonohana deserves top billing so that’s good.
-What I said about YP mode 2, same goes for Katahane.
-I played Yin-Yang X-Change…I tried going one yuri route…it sucked. I heard there’s a true yuri route but I was too upset to care.
    – The Koihime Musou Trilogy (Even the 2nd season) is one of my fav ECCHIMANIA anime of all time (Next to Queen’s Blade), but I heard the 2nd game has a female protagonist…I could be wrong though.

    • Overlord-G says:

Nope. It’s the same guy. Never mind.

      • Choco Titi says:

the other mode in yukkuri ? you mean the stripping game ?
well, i nvr use the installation exe provided in games. they are “débile”. I played Yukkuri in win 7, home edition, 64bit, french loca, and it works w/o any prb. When u download the game, just open the exe in each folder to play. (Escalation Adventure is ADV, and Panic is the stripping game).
Hehe, i dun like x-change, just check it out out of bore….

        • Overlord-G says:

Well then, since I just finished the ADV with all 4 endings just now, I have all I need. I’ll add the details about the stripping game later.

        • Yi says:

Seems like you two have a good conversation going on here, so I won’t intrude. ^ ^

I’ll just say that depending on where you got Yukkuri (and I think I have an idea where), you might not need to install. Just extract and play via the .exe.

          Anyway, please do carry on.

  35. Kurochan says:

    Hey 🙂
I also have a recommendation for a few yuri VNs:
    – ホリゾーンの上~預言の書~ (Horizon no ue – yogen no sho)
    http://vndb.org/v1500
It’s about a girl who enrolls in a magic school, I really liked it 🙂
There are 3 or 4 yuri paths (oh yeah, and two minor guy paths lol..)
There’s no English translation out there, so you’d have to play it in Japanese though..
But if you can understand Japanese, then I definitely recommend this VN 🙂
-アマラント(AMARANTO); don’t know if you’ve heard of this one, but it really is awesome too 🙂
    http://vndb.org/v1987
It also isn’t translated, and I have to say that even though I can understand Japanese fairly well, this one is still pretty hard to understand, they use a lot of figures of speeches and complicated polite and casual forms…
But if you can get past that, it’s a great yuri VN with a great story 🙂
    – Finally, Magical DIary – Horse Hall by Hanako Games:
    http://vndb.org/v7499
I really enjoyed this one too, plus, it’s in English for once =)
There is only one yuri path though, but it’s worth it 😉

Also the anime To aru kagaku no railgun, which was really awesome.. Not to mention the yuri between the main characters Kuroko and Mikoto (well, more like attempted yuri lol…)

    • Yi says:

      Ooh nice recommendations, Kurochan!
I’ll have to check out Horizon no ue – yogen no sho for the yuri routes. Same with Magical Diary. Its being in English helps a lot too, and yea definitely checking it out for the yuri rout. Both should be super fun!!

As for Amaranto, I’ve actually played it. I even wrote a partial summary of it a long long time ago (stopped after a bad end though…): Part 1, Part 2. Anyway, I thought it is a pretty decent visual novel. The story’s very interesting.

I’ve also already seen Railgun. Loved it!! And I really really love Kuroko. ^ ^ (I wrote a review if you’re interested.)

Anyway, thanks for the recommendations, darling!

      • Overlord-G says:

Actually Magical Diary has two Yuri paths. I also have the game but haven’t finished it completely yet. I’ll try to review it as soon as I can. Do check it out when you can.

There’s also “Fatal Hearts” that’s hinted at having one yuri route but finding it won’t be easy. Actually the game doubles as a puzzle game and mystery novel.

  36. Choco Titi says:

    About Kasimasi*
Hm… maybe I liked it due to particular circumstances.
Its OP got in my interest while I was YT-ing for eufonius songs (the character design is good too).
Then I ANN’d it, and the 3 main characters were voiced by 3 seiyuu that I like a lot.
    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5835
But, when I saw ‘yuri’, ‘gender switch’ and ‘love triangle’, i dropped it. I used not to like yuri (both 3D and 2D), I admit. Some time passed, I started to think yuri isnt as bad as I had thought, so I decided to give this one a try. So, I can say it’s the 1st anime I watch for yuri.
Well, so is my story. Hope u dont mind my blahblah.

I checked almost all anime above 6.0 in this list.
    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/search/genreresults?w=series&a=AA&a=OC&a=TA&a=MA&th=yuri&o=rating
    I think it’s a good reference.

    • MyHatsOffToYou says:

Well at least I don’t mind your “blahblah” since I go “blahblah” as well 😀

Different view of different people can sometimes see things I don’t see and expand my thoughts on certain subjects.

I don’t often trust the combined rating of anime news network since they often understate animes I like and overstate animes I dislike; such as “A-Channel” and “Eureka Seven”. It’s still a pretty good reference most of the time, but it’s not always right as I use to think ¬_¬

    • Yi says:

It’s great blahblah. Love it! It’s always interesting to hear someone talk about yuri. ^ ^

Anyway, thanks for the links too, choco, although like MyHatsOffToYou, I’m also a little wary of ANN reviews. Several reviewers have some inconsistencies and just general issues/ biases (not just about anime) that I think they could do without.

It’s still a good reference though, so thanks, hun!

      • Choco Titi says:

Yah, m well aware of the bias on ANN. How much it upset me when Haruhi Disappearance surpassed Clannad After Story as the best rated anime.
Mah, I only used it to narrow the diameter of anime that I have to watch.

@MyHatts: did they overstate or understate A-Channel (just curious)?

        • MyHatsOffToYou says:

A channel is placed at 6.97 in ANN. I would certainly say it’s way higher than that. In my opinion, everything less than a 7.0 in my opinion means it’s not worth watching while 7.5 is around acceptable.

I wouldn’t say it’s to the point of awsomeness, but A-Channel can’t be 6.97 can it? Just its moe-ness can earn itself 5 points alone d(-.-)b

          Just my opinion.

        • Yi says:

@Choco Titi: I use ANN mostly also just for reference to get a feel for what people are watching and narrow down my picks too. ^ ^

  37. Kurochan says:

How could I forget Fatal Hearts lol
Yes, there is indeed one yuri path, I’ve finished that game too 🙂
It is pretty good too 🙂
Hanako Games often have yuri routes in them, but they sadly have no CGs.. (or just one at each ending)
I’m more into the “Katahane-like” CGs.. But VNs like that are hard to find..
Vanitas no hitsuji looks like exactly the type of VN I love.. If only it was yuri with a female protagonist =(
Too bad, but I’ll have to pass on that VN…Why are there so few yuri visual novels with female protagonists? >_<

On a side note, has anyone played the VN 闇夜に踊れ(Yamiyo ni odore) -Witch wishes to commit the Night-? I'd be interested in it, but I don't wanna spend like 8000 yen on a crappy game lol..

Oh god, I already read that review! So, you wrote it :O
Actually I read that review before picking up To aru Kagaku no Railgun and it made me want to watch it ;O
    Well, thanks then ^^

    • Choco Titi says:

Vanistas has a nice story with some drama and romance, thu no yuri. The art is pretty good too. But I had to drop it, no motivation and its jap, too at a high lvl for me.

In Railgun, I prefer the other couple, Saten-san and Uiharu. They are sweet.

    • Yi says:

@Kurochan: Fatal Hearts too. Seems like there’s a lot of visual novel I still need to play, and that’s a wonderful thing.

I enjoy Katahane-like CGs too. They’re just super adorbs. But yea, they are hard to find. Katahane is such a great game though! Love it.

I just did a quick check on Vanitas no Hitsuji, and the artwork looks amazing! It is indeed too bad it’s not yuri. I guess yuri just doesn’t quite have as much draw for the average player.

Anyway, yep yep. I’ve written quite a few reviews (some good, some bad… Most of the older reviews are things I’m not particularly proud of, but oh well) and a lot of posts on anime. Feel free to browse around. ^ ^

@Choco Titi: I really like Saten and Uiharu too. ^ ^ I want Saten to flip me!

  38. Froggy Raccoon says:

I’m surprised that nobody talk about the anime Yuru Yuri. It’s very funny and the relations between characters are nice.

    Comedy + yuri = epic win !

    • Overlord-G says:

Oh that it is dood. That it is. Which reminds me, now that my schedule’s been cleared. It’s time for the OG-Man to kick some tail.

Oh and in case anyone’s interested.

      http://tlwiki.tsukuru.info/index.php?title=Katahane

    • Yi says:

I set this page up initially to have a place for people to recommend me stuff. Maybe Yuru Yuri is not quite getting the mentions here because most know I’m already watching it.

Anyway, agreed. It’s a pretty decent show with some chuckles and some cute scenes. Thanks, Froggy Raccoon!

      p.s. What a whimsical name~ ^ ^

    • MyHatsOffToYou says:

I thought people didn’t talk about Yuru Yuri because many don’t like it. I’ve seen so many sites flaming the anime quite excitedly.

      • Yi says:

Is that so? To be fair, Yuru Yuri does have its problems. If I ever write a review of it, I’ll likely end up criticizing it fairly harshly as well I think.

        • Choco Titi says:

uso! I especially like YRYR, my most fav ep is “when akarin and the cicadas cry”, following is the dark Chinatsu-chan. I found it a funny show.
Cant help laughing with the chemistry b/w tsuntsun Ayano and airhead Kyouko.

        • Yi says:

I don’t think I’ve seen that episode yet. I’m one or two behind. Anyway, love Ayano x Kyouko as well. Totally my favorite ship in YuruYuri. (That and also Kyouko x Yui. Kyouko gets around in my imaginations.)

  39. Aya says:

    Not yuri-related this time ^^
I would love to see Studio Ghibli’s anime reviews(or maybe i missed them) ^^ but seems the newest one haven’t released yet

and ever watch the sky crawlers yi ?

    • Yi says:

Come to think of it, I haven’t reviewed many (or any) Ghibli films. I should re-watch some of the old classics and write something maybe.

Anyway, I haven’t seen Sky Crawlers, but the trailer looks super interesting. And I do like the sky. ^ ^

  40. Choco Titi says:

I finished this just recently (I truly enjoyed watching). I wonder if you have watched it, but well…

    It’s fan-serv yuri though 🙂
    (the game is as fun)

    • Yi says:

I know about this anime. It certainly looks super fun, but yea, unfortunately, I’m going to have to give it a pass as well for various reasons akin to some of the problems I had with Sengoku Otome.

Thanks for the clip though. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn’t mind getting stepped on by Sousou.

      • Choco Titi says:

Well, yah… We cant expect good story from these kind of anime yes. I havent watched sengoku otome, though, I can say koihime doesnt pretend to have a good / natural / logical (or whatever) story. It’s simply fun to watch.
Friendship, sisterhood, master-student, general-strategist… all these relations are well represented which is also a plus.
One of my fav scene is this

Chouhi (Rinrin) is my fav character in the series.

Last thing, the anime has 3 seasons, 2 spin-off OVA, a live AMV… I dont believe it’ll disappoint you. How about give it a try, watch the 1st 3 eps of season 1? I’m convinced that you will like it.

Allow me for last note: there is a change of art in every eps (from usual art to loli’s), which I appreciate a lot.

        • Yi says:

You’re not the first to have recommended me Koihime Musou, and I’m sure you won’t be the last. (This seems to be a common suggestion whenever people hear that I like yuri anime, especially from male fans…) I have a very specific taste in yuri and in anime stories, and my mind’s made up on it. It touches on a pet peeve of mine on fictional stories, so yea. Haha, I know I probably sound like a super jerk right now, but I just don’t have the time to watch or try anime I know I won’t follow through with. Still, thanks for the suggestion and the super cute clips!

        • Choco Titi says:

          Hehe, got it 🙂
Yah, ppl sure have their personal condition(s) for picking up an anime (or anything else). Same goes for me with mecha or bloody anime 🙂
Thank you for taking your time.

        • Yi says:

No, thank you. ^ ^ You’re far too kind to suggest and link all these wonderful things~

    • MyHatsOffToYou says:

      I WANNA GET STEPPED ON!!!

The sweet stench of her sweat mixed with the freshly squeezed juice…..Oh~~~I wanna lick her feet while she looks at me with that dominating smile on her face xD

  41. Yellowfruit says:

Normally, because I’ve got no idea what you’re saying, I would leave this well alone, but this is beginning to annoy me.

I’ve got no problem with languages besides English. In fact if I could scratch up the time and money to attend classes, I would learn every language I could find; I love the things!

However, I find it extremely rude when twenty or thirty people are chatting away in English, and someone decides they should respond in what I believe is Spanish. It always seems to be Spanish, and I have no idea why.

Please, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” I find it very rude to see someone switching language to one other than what everyone is speaking in. There is no good reason for it, than excluding everyone else.

And don’t try to tell me “You can’t speak English”, because you obviously read this post and this comment, so you can’t be having that much trouble with it.

    • MyHatsOffToYou says:

      Give it to them dude!!!

Maybe he just ran his message through translate.reference.com just to spike other people 😛

    • Yi says:

That message you responded to was actually spam.

But on this English issue, I have no problem if people post anything not in English. As much as this is a “chat” among people, there are those who just want to put their opinions out there. And that’s fine. Not everything is addressed to everyone, or to English speaking people.

      I don’t think it’s rude.

      • MyHatsOffToYou says:

Just to make sure if it’s just my computer or not……that Spanish spam was deleted right?

Now people who saw Yellowfruit and my message at the end won’t really understand what we’re really talking about………

        • Yi says:

Yea, I’ve removed the spam as I must do so.

Anyway, regardless of whether the spam’s there or not, I’m just noting that I think it’s OK if people want to comment in other languages.

  42. Jo says:

    Hey Yi..

Not sure if you know yet, but Spangle call Lilli line had a new album come out a couple of days ago called “Piano Lessons”.
    Enjoy!!

    =)

  43. Casshie says:

You should listen to Minori Chihara’s new single called Terminated. It should put a smile on your face =). It’s also the Op theme of a new anime called Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. The show is not bad so far, but with only 3 episodes out so far it’s hard to evaluate it properly, so i would not recommend it to you for now, just recommending the opening theme, it’s quite awesome =)).

    • Choco Titi says:

I’m watching Horizon Nowhere atm. I decided to watch it only because of Ohashi Ayuru (Eila’s seiyuu, from Strike Witches), though she had only 1 line in the 1st episode. The story so far is a mess. And I dislike protagonist who acts like an idiot. But well, I’ll continue watching it till ep 4 and decide to drop it or not after.

      • Casshie says:

Yup i agree, that guy has been pissing me off so far..I just hope he start to shape up and get better in the anime. It’s not bad, but, with a main character like that i might drop it, unless he has some special hidden power(which he should have, I think)

    • Yi says:

Thanks for the suggestion on Terminated.

      I like it!

As for the anime, I think I’ll hold off on that for now due to time concerns. Plus, it doesn’t sound too stellar so far. Anyway, thanks for recommendation!

  44. AXYPB says:

Yuri Project has released a scanlation of Asagi Ryu’s yuri one-shot “Hanazono Iki”, under the name “To The Flower Garden“. I did editing and typesetting for this release. This is an adult-oriented work.

This one-shot involves an office lady, Aoi, and her junior, Ayano, going on a retreat in a castle ruin park. After Ayano’s boyfriend left her, Aoi offers to take his place for the trip. As they explore the park, they realize their feelings for one another.

    • Yi says:

Just read it. The story is fairly predictable, but the art is incredible! Asagi Ryu draws really cute and erotic scenes. Thanks for the rec!

  45. AXYPB says:

For Sonohana fans, I’ve compiled a list of my recommended fanart. The index currently includes images, videos, music, and fanfiction.

  46. Cell says:

I’ve encountered many manga by lurking the internet while having nothing else better to do. The funny thing is that if I wasn’t on vacation, I wouldn’t have even bothered to look at these titles. What I’d recommend is a manga series by the name of Variante ~ Requiem for the world. However, do be warned that this manga may not be for the light of heart. This manga contains gore, blood, and violence. The ending, however, brought tears to my eyes (and I’m not one to shed tears very often!). As a bonus, it’s by the same artist and author as A Lollypop or a Bullet.

    • Yi says:

Ooh, I love A Lollypop or a Bullet, so I’m probably going to love this as well. Thanks for the recommendation!!

p.s. This came at a good time. I was just looking for something to read. Thanks, Cell. ^ ^

  47. Sayuri says:

hey hey! i found /u/ visual novel!
    http://www.neko-soft.com/?page_id=2
I don’t really know how to critique things but i can say it’s pretty good. it has Great art, pretty okay bg music and good storyline. it would be great if the developers gave chocoa(protagonists partner) a back story and hired voice actresses but, i think it’s new to the business so it’s okay. btw it’s free and already in english so enjoy! i know i did 😉

    • Sayuri says:

wait.. let me revise something *translate the dialogues in japanese and let japanese voice actresses do their voices whilst retaining the english text in the game* there.. Japanese voice actresses in their native language just gives a better effect y’know

    • Yi says:

I actually played this a few weeks ago. A friend had informed me of its release via Twitter. It’s not too bad, but it’s not incredible either. The main issue I had with this is that the characters are a bit bland, and the sex scenes came a bit too bluntly.

“it would be great if the developers gave chocoa(protagonists partner) a back story”
Exactly! The characters need a little more depth. Still, as a quickie, this is really good. And it does have great art!

Thanks for the recommendation. ^ ^

  48. NamlessX says:

i actually dont know the english name for this.
    but i love it 🙂
    here is a cover picture.

    少女管家百合史

  49. choco says:

I’ve enjoyed “Sayonara Foklore”, so I’d like to recommend this one. http://dynasty-scans.com/reader/series/sayonara_folklore
I really liked their joke in the credits page too. It’s a shame Shi-ki has closed definitely.

    • Yi says:

Just read it. The premise is a little convoluted and slightly forced with the whole Monday thing, but once the manga gets past it, it’s a really fun read. I really like all the girls, especially Acchan. Plus, the art is lovely. I love this mangaka’s style so much.

Thanks for the recommendation, choco. ^ ^

      • choco says:

        yeah, you’re welcome.
        m glad u liked it 🙂
it’s true that it was unnatural at 1st, but it turned out to be enjoyable.

        • Yi says:

Yep yep. And the girls are so cute. Love the art.

        • choco says:

Yep yep yep. ^^V (is there a way to vote up comment in wordpress?)
And I really like Acchan too. It’d be better if the author solved her unrequited love (I’m saying that but I really dunno how to though…).

        • Yi says:

I kind of like leaving it unrequited for Acchan~ A bit of bitterness is nice too.

p.s. There is a way to allow comment ratings, but I don’t want to implement it for various reasons.

  50. choco says:

This time I’d like to recommend a doujin: http://nanofate.us/content/sweetest-love-18 (The site is a little slow)
The anime isn’t much of a yuri (it appeared to me as a normal magical girl series at first). But with such yuri fanbase, I’m convinced that Nanoha & Fate is the best yuri couple ever. *biased*

    • Yi says:

Oh, I’ve read this already. And also, yea, agreed about Nanoha. ^ ^

      • choco says:

Oh, yeah. I guessed you’d already read it after all.
On the left of their site, there is a list of their release, some interesting titles: Meaning of Us, Harmony, Lorely, Love countdown… these are titles I can remember right now.
There is “Santa Sangre”, a good doujin too. It’s about the incident where Nanoha got injured and couldn’t move.
Ah, I’m sorry for suddenly going all excited about Nanoha. I’m currently re-watching the whole series; it seems I can’t wait for the 2nd movie any longer.

        • Yi says:

Yea, I’ve read a lot of doujins back in the days… And still kind of read a few now and then. I really don’t have that much time these days though to browse around anymore or take up on every single recommendation. So only recommend the stuff I really should read/watch. Make it count. ^ ^

  51. NamlessX says:

hmm, did you do a YuruYuri Review o.o cuz i dont see it >.<
so ima gonna post it here 😛

  52. choco says:

    For a change this time

The anime has nothing to talk about. But the ED is just…. ^ like that. Hope you like it 🙂

  53. gozieson says:

Yi, you got any links to download subbed versions of your reviews? I wanna watch them as I haven’t been in touch with my anime side for a long time…

    • choco says:

If I might answer your question in Yi’s place,
As long as the anime hasn’t been licensed yet, you type: “anime title” site:bakabt.com on Google, you can easily have all you want with full seeds (and the best quality possible).

If the anime was licensed, it’s difficult now as the SOPA and PIPA still going on, also TPP/ACTA =_= and nyaa tracker is shutdown too. In this case, you can go to fansub wiki to check which fansub team did that series, and go to their homepage. There are 3 possibilities:
      – they have their own tracker. PHEW. Prb solved
      – XDCC/IRC
      – in the worst case, ask them to re-up the series.

And, the last resort, asiatorrent. If you have chance, you can have your series being seeded there, but… you have to register and keep ur ratio up.

Just btw though, which series are you looking for?

      • gozieson says:

sengoku otome, queen’s blade series and any others that are highly recommended on this blog

        • choco says:

well, about these 2 pure ecchi animes, google:
          “sengoku otome” site:bakabt.com
          “queen’s blade” site:bakabt.com
they are healthily alive on bakabt. no registering or seeding obligatory if ur concerned about that.

        • Yi says:

I do recommend Queen’s Blade (though not necessarily highly highly, but just a solid recommendation.) As for Sengoku Otome, I’m lukewarm about the series. It’s not bad, but it’s not good.

Thanks for the help and links, choco! Another good site in addition to Bakabt is Nyann Torrents, which is actually the one I use most often.

        • gozieson says:

Yeah, I’m already getting those, they are of much better quality and of a fast download speed. Now I’m looking for more frags! Thanks guys!

  54. Accelerator says:

Ever considered picking up “Rewrite” by KEY?
If you can understand the story, it gets extremely deep. Every path, even the main scenarios included (Without being a train-wreck). It is one of the few visual novels that I have played with me actually liking every single girl and her respective path, and the amount of VNs I have number above 1000. Plus, the MC is actually..likeable!
Here is the first OP released before KEY had this completely planned out.
    The same old slice-of-life formula.

And here is the 2nd OP, with everything in finalized form.
A drastic change, with a revision of the old formula. Adding in plots and elements you would never expect fromn KEY.

The story was a joint effort between Romeo Tanaka (Cross Channel, A Drug That Makes You Dream), Ryukishi07 (Higurashi and Umineko), and Yuuto Tonokawa (Little Busters!) .
    Sales? See (Reception)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rewrite_(visual_novel)#Reception
And the Soundtrack literally steals your breath. Youtube should probably help you with finding the tracks.
If you are still unsure, try to look for a spoiler-less review, because you dont want ANY spoilers for this.

  55. bladezer says:

I don’t know if you been recommended this already, you should watch the original pretty cure it has quite of subtext between the 2 leads but its also a really solid magical girl show.

Also sorry for basically dropping off the face of the internet, my computer broke so I had to get a new one

    • Yi says:

Ah Precure. Yea, I would love to watch it, but unfortunately, the franchise is just too big… I don’t think I have time to get into such a long series. I do enjoy the occasional Precure artworks though.

“Also sorry for basically dropping off the face of the internet, my computer broke so I had to get a new one”

No worries. ^ ^ I kind of dropped off too for a long time. If you look at the homepage, you’ll find that updates for new posts are now so far apart… And hits and comments suffer pretty badly too. 😦

      • bladezer says:

Actually you can mostly jump in at any season without watching the previous one, most are a separate continued, except for Max Heart and 5 Go Go which are sequels.

*Pats Back* Don’t feel to bad about that, we all know how busy we can get sometimes.

        • Yi says:

True, but I just have a compulsive need to watch everything once I start. I’ll save it for another day.

          *Pats Back*
          Thank you~ *Hugs*

        • bladezer says:

ahahaha… I have the same problem

          *Blushes from hug* your welcome…

    Shuffle!

This story is set in a certain city located in a certain country.
A certain boy lives in this city. One day, two new families move into the houses neighboring his. The new residents turn out to be the King of the Gods and the King of the Devils. Both of them have moved in next to the boy’s house by request of their respective daughters, who fell in love with him at an early age.

Many years ago, when the boy was still a child, he had a chance encounter with each of the girls. Their meeting was brief at best, but the girls took it to heart and kept the memory alive until this day.

The stage is set for a story that involves the boy’s childhood friend as well as others around him. It is a tale of hardship and despair, but also one of faint hope. It is a tale of a boy who, to quote his cynical friend, is capable of becoming either God, Devil or Man.

    Snow Drop

    Snow Drop
Snow drop is a beautiful European herb known for bearing nodding white flowers that often appear while the snow is on the ground, despite the cold of winter around it. Filled with symbolism of “hope” and “consolation,” the beautiful flower is the central theme in Snow Drop, the romantic wintertime bishoujo adventure from Peach Princess!

You are Minoru Sasazuka, age 19, a bit of a dreamer with a difficult tendency of not being able to make decisions when your heart is involved. A normal Japanese boy, trying to get into college, you’ve got a handsome physique that should make you popular with girls, but your occasional penchant for romanticism drives them away.

Invited on a winter dream ski trip with a group of friends, you head for a ski lodge for some winter skiing and fun. For you, it’s a journey home, since you frequented this particular lodge since when you were young. With you are Kyoka, a very special childhood friend of yours, her stylish sister Keika, and your sister, Honami.

At the lodge, you enjoy the hospitality of the owner, Kasumi, a competent woman with a tinge of sadness in her eyes. Also at the lodge is the lovely Shizuka, the mysterious helper who has many secrets.

As the story develops, you are confronted with the reality that Kyoka, your friend since childhood, loves you. You’ve suspected this, but haven’t ever been able to face this before now, with the magical and romantic winter snow all around you. At the same time, you are strangely attracted to the quiet and romantic Shizuka-chan — which will you choose? Although many erotic temptations are in store in the quiet mountain retreat, and there are many paths you can choose, you must be true to your heart.

    Snow Sakura

    Snow Sakura cover
My name is Tachibana Yuuji, a regular student with no particular plans for the future – until my parents left for Hawaii on a business trip last fall, leaving me in the care of my uncle in the wintry countryside of Hokkaido.

Small-town life on Japan’s northern island didn’t have time to get dull, as from the moment I got there I was reunited with my cousin and childhood friend Saki. She’s pretty demanding, but when I’m hanging out with her and her school friends I don’t mind; as I get close to them I feel like I’m finding meaning in life that I didn’t know I was looking for.

Legend says there is a flower that blooms here in the depth of winter… as the twilight deepens and a snowflake melts in the palm of my hand, I stand with a beautiful girl by my side. Will we be able to uncover its mystery in this fleeting moment?

    X-Change

You are Takuya Aihara, an average junior college student with one character flaw: you’re a bit of a mental weakling. No matter how hard you try, it seems that all the girls around you are constantly pushing you around: your teasing step-sister Natsumi, the genius president of your chemistry club Mami, but especially Asuka, your beautiful childhood friend.

One fateful day, while cleaning some shelves in the chemistry room, you spill a mysterious chemical on yourself. The next thing you know, you’ve been transformed into a girl! And so begins this hilarious erotic adventure. As a woman, Takuya discoveres a new world of experiences, some welcome and others not. Can Takuya find a way back to normal, while avoiding the many temptations that come with his new female body? Can he find a way to express his feelings for Asuka, without hurting another who lives him?

    X-Change 2

    X-Change 2

In X-Change 2, you once again take on the role of Takuya Aihara, the unlucky chemistry student at Miyanomori Private School, who has a tendency to get caught in bizarre chemistry accidents that cause you many problems. When a strange chemical turned you into a girl last year, you had a bizarre string of experiences as you learned “how the other half lived.” Now, one year later, you’re enjoying your school life with Asuka, your steady girlfriend. But unhappy days are around the corner, as chemistry club member Chisato uses you as a guinea pig for a new experiment, which changes you into a girl once again!

As a girl, you find you’re much more popular than before, but with practically everyone around you (both male and female) yearning to have sex with you, it can all get to be too much.

This great dating-sim features the old familiar faces, as well as many new characters and erotic plot lines. The shy boy Kouji, whose virginity you took last year on the roof of the school, bides his time waiting for his chance. Then there’s Mr. Sano, the teacher known for his interest in his female students, and he’s got his eyes set on you. What will you do when you encounter Maiko-chan, a girl whose confusion about men has lead her to prefer girls? What about the shy Megumi, who confesses that she’s in love with your male self? And while all this is going on, you’re trying to keep your tenuous relationship with Asuka intact, which isn’t easy, to say the least. The biggest danger is that the changes to your body will become permanent if you don’t change back soon — but how can you find a way to become male again? Don’t miss this great bishojo hentai adventure game!

    X-Change 3

    X-Change 3

You are Takuya Aihara, the hero/heroine of our story. You’ve been blessed with a very interesting life: several years ago you were changed a girl through bizarre chemistry accidents, not once but twice. Now as you approach your final year of university with faithful girlfriend Asuka at your side, you almost get nostalgic thinking about those crazy days you spent as a girl.

Until it happens again, that is: that troublesome Kouji, still trying to get your female persona in the sack, secretly gets Asami Satoh to whip up some of the sex-change potion and tricks you into drinking it! It’ll be harder than ever for you to change back into your male self this time, but you’ve got no choice: you have to find a way to change back before your female body becomes permanent. Although Asuka is one of the most understanding women in the world, there’s no way she’ll stay with you as a girl — that’s just not her thing.

As you start another round of bizarre sexual adventures in your female body, the whole gang is back: your twisted sister Natsumi, who loves to tease you; your smart senpai Asami; even the endlessly experimenting Chisato. With an even richer and more complex game story than last time, you’ll have loads of fun exploring college life in your new female body. Where will it all end?

As for female protagonist VNs, there are plenty around… Just look through the titles listed on VNDB I guess.

Music! Gotta love the sound and vibrations.

Been watching Itsuka Tenma No Kuro Usagi the other day and descovered a beautifull song that just sang to my sense of style in music. The artist that sings the song is Akiko Shikata and the songs are VII and Utsusemi.

The songs are a mix of enya, kanon wakashima and celtic music.
    please listen to them!

I found this book in my local bookstore today by Haruki Murakami, on the internationally best selling book shelf, titled “SPUTNIK Sweetheart”. Its about a yuri couple =D
Picture and summary of the book can be found on my photobucket: http://s1138.photobucket.com/albums/n525/casshiee/
It reminds me a bit of Kannazuki, with some plots and parts changed. The weird thing is that it’s the first time i ever saw a book of this genre on sale and it was the last one left..yuri must be quite a popular genre nowadays =D

    • Yi says:

Ooh lovely. This is really nice. I’ve actually just been needing a book to read, so this is perfect. Thanks, Casshie!

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been infatuated with the “other side”; the world of splendor. Yes, I wanted to become one of those glittering stars. And so, my dream has come true. But now…All I want is to be beloved by someone.”

When she was young, Yukino Miyashita wanted, more than anything else, to become an idol. However, after accomplishing her dream, the idol group she was part of failed to sell, and she returned to school, facing alienation from her peers. Now, at age 18, Yukino is living alone in Tokyo, half-heartedly trying to start a new life as a talent manager, while not quite able to put her idol days behind her. She meets Setsuko, a songwriter who also once belonged to a failed idol group. The romance, sparked by her encounter with Setsuko, causes Yukino to re-evaluate her own life.

    Yin-Yang – X-Change Alternative

Kaoru Sakurazuka is a normal Japanese young man, not unique in the least except for his oddly feminine facial features, which drive him crazy. His name doesn’t thrill him either — Kaoru is a common name for both girls and boys. He tries to make up for looking like a girl by wearing an extra coating of male bravado wherever he goes. He enjoys his time at school with his friends Touya and Renji.

Lately, Kaoru has been feeling under the weather, and getting dizzy spells. He goes to the school nurse — who’s also famous for inventing new concoctions in the name of science — and accidentally drinks a vial marked “experimental medicine.” Bad move, Kaoru-kun! The next day, Kaoru is shocked to wake up to find that he’s been transformed into a girl! While he desperately tries to find a way to return to normal, he’s forced to spend his days in his new female body.

Kaoru is surprised at the changes in his environment now that he’s a girl. Everywhere he goes, he’s the center of attention, and it seems that everyone is taking an interest in him now. What’s more, Kaoru’s body has an amazing secret that he has yet to discover. What strange adventures are in store for Kaoru in his new body?

    Yuukuri Panic Escalation

A great new game for fans of erotic visual novels from Japan, this is an all yuri (lesbian) game that eroge fans will love. It’s really two games in one: a complete multi-scenario ADV (visual novel) game with different paths to explore, plus a great arcade-style “uncover-the-picture” game in the tradition

    The Visual Novel
The visual novel is a great game in which you must guide the main character Rie as she navigates the dark world of lesbian possession. Rie Komatsuzaki has just transferred to the prestigious St. Yale Academy, a Catholic school for girls, and she’s sad and confused. She had fallen in love with her home tutor then discovered that her stepmother was involved in an illicit relationship with him.

Now at her new school, she finds herself alone and confused. On a whim, she enters the school chapel, where she encounters Naomi and Midori making love. She’s immediately taken aback — “What are they doing? Girls aren’t supposed to touch each other like that!” And yet, a strange warmth fills Rie, and her panties grow wet. Before she knows what’s happening, she’s the target of the two girls who seek to make her their plaything for sex. Several fascinating endings to explore!

    “Yukkuri Panic” Arcade Game
Then get ready for a great action game in the tradition of the classic “Gal’s Panic” erotic arcade games. Combining an original story with 21 levels of gorgeous erotic art that you unlock as you play, it’s similar to the classic Qix arcade games. Your ship travels along the outside edge of the picture, and you can move forward and draw sections of the picture by holding the space bar. Beware of the many enemies that move around the screen, including the Boss, which shoots out missiles and fireballs at you. If something touches the line you’re drawing, sparks will move towards you, destroying your ship if it touches you before you finish claiming a section of screen. The gameplay is fast and furious and erotic!

    Aoishiro

My deceased grandmother liked traveling. Strange scenery. Strange people. She liked to meet them. I am now a high school student and set off on a trip as well. It is just a camp for training of my club. We visit a town near the sea and go to a temple gate located at the cape. What we see there is….
Aoishiro is an all-ages, yuri visual novel developed by Success. It is considered somewhat of a sequel to Akaiito, also, a yuri visual novel by Success, and the two seem to share the same world. The original release of the game was for Playstation 2 on May of 2008. In November of 2009, the game was ported to PC. Modifications included high-res, less-censored CG. In addition, there were some extra CG and two extra side stories were added. There is also a mode where you can design your own Aoishiro scenes using a proprietary scripting language.

Just started like two days ago in fact. I like it so far—I was a pretty big fan of Saki.

Anyways, if you have a Twitter, I tweeted a bit about it.

      • bladezer says:

Glad to here. Well I’m mainly looking forward to it giving Teru and co have more characterisation then, We’re evil lol. Altough I wish more yuri subtext was apparent with the Achiga girls beside Arrata’s crush on Akado.

I don’t like twitter so I don’t use it, sorry

        • Yi says:

Me too. I’m also looking forward to how it ties to the main story… and yuri.

    Wanko to Kurasou

People were crazy about pets years ago. The particularly popular ones were cats and dogs that look human and have high intelligence. But the boom has died down with time, and now only people who really want them own them. Our main character is a college student who finds a stray anthropoid dog, collapsed in the rain. Unable to let her just die, he takes her up to his room and treats her. Even though he told her she can only stay until the rain ends, the dog stays in fear and worry.
The main character decides to look for her owner.
The life between a human and a dog starts…

      • Im fine but still without a job so can’t pay my bills. I go on the internet at my local libriary so you see how thats working out for me (ToT) i miss money.

        cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!

  81. LoLeRji says:

Kore wa Zombie desu ka? I recommend to watch it, at the begginning, you will think it is so stupidly rediculous, and not worthy to watch it, but afterwards, as the plot develops, you will learn character’s personalities, their pasts and while learning them, you will have fun, starting to like the anime without even noticing 😀 Closing to the end, it becomes a bit sad, without losing its FUN that makes you smile! 😀

    • Yi says:

I actually checked this out for a bit, but in the end, it’s just not for me. It feels like a bundle of fun, but I’m not, in general, a fan of harem anime. This has elements that are too harem-ish for me.

Thanks, though, for the kind recommendation, darling. ^ ^

  82. Vampire(G)Girl says:

I suck at making amv’s but i have to say i did pretty good on this one!!!!!

  83. JbstormburstADV says:

Hey, Yi, what’s been up lately, other than the new Sono Hanabira couple? Because as for my front, there’s a bit of good VN news I can mention, although I really do want to see AXYPB (sp?) redo the original Sono Hanabira patch.

For example, I can confirm that Doki Fansubs will be releasing the final translation patch for Tomoyo After’s Limited Edition within the month, and following that will be the Memorial Edition. Additionally, in association with Baka-Tsuki, Doki is also going to manage the final edition of the CLANNAD Full Voice translation patch (as paraphrased from B-T, the current patch is only 99.9% complete).

Now, as for a recommendation, I saw it was only mentioned once, but I plead that you decide to check out and likely do a review on the American-made, free-to-download VN, Katawa Shoujo. I ended up hearing about it only two days ago, so I gave it a whirl, and I will tell you right now, the positive reviews on forums all over are understating just how masterful this game really is. It is now officially my favorite VN (or, until I can play througn CLANNAD and Tomoyo After, possiblty).

    • Yi says:

I am definitely going to give Katawa Shoujo a look. A number of my friends have already written praises, and I even know a few who was involved in the project. So yea, when I feel in the mood for another visual novel, this—along with a few other titles—are first on my list.

Thanks for the heads up. This is one more incentive to get on Katawa Shoujo!

  84. Cell says:

I wonder if this will be out of place or not…anyway, have you ever heard of Steins;Gate? I wonder if anyone has already recommended it or anything. I played through the translated VN on my iPhone before watching the anime series, and bother were amazing. One could say that it was similar to Madoka, but I’d be spoiling the plot if I revealed any more. Anyway, although there’s no yuri content, it’s definitely a must play/watch. The plot was very well thoughtout and mind-boggling at times even. If you’re in the mood for an intricate story-line with amazing art and plot twists, I definately recommend Steins;Gate. (I will have to admit that, for the VN, a walkthrough is almost needed to reach the true ending, though :P).

    • Cell says:

Ah, one thing I forgot to mention: it’s amazing how scientifically accurate this anime is. Since I’m a physics maniac, this was what initially drew me in. You usually don’t see much anime/manga that delve this deep into the scientific realm.

    • Yi says:

No worries about this comment being out of place. I welcome all recommendations. ^ ^

Anyways, I think this is quite a nice suggestion. I actually checked out the manga some time ago—four episodes in—and I was intrigued. I think I’d be interested in playing through the VN as well. If only I had more time. 😦 I’ll try to move things around.

p.s. Love time loop/ time travel stories with strong physic sciences elements.

MangaTraders dun have enough yuri manga idd.
Do u use Androids? If yes, there is an app called Mango. It allows you to read and download manga from different manga Online Readers. Then, you can go to the genres and pick YURI, lots show up. (pick from MangaFox, MangaReader, AnimeA)
Some interesting titles I discovered thanks to Mango:
Haru yo, Koi (yuri but not main stream)
Ningyo Ouji (yuri but not main stream)
HEN (yuri, but the art is “hen” ~,~)
Koibito Play (slightly yuri, S&M play)
Towakan (fully yuri, but well, cliched)
Manga no Tsukurikatat (comedy), Pixy Gale, Gurenki (cute), Gunjou (realistic art) yuri, but incomplete.
You can google these title too. Some are available on MangaTraders, some are not.

Other popular titles that I can recommend are (maybe you already read them):
      Butterfly69 (Natsuneko)
      Passionate Electric Wave (Morinaga Milk)

  91. If you like girls and if you like tanks then girls und panzer is the anime to watch!!!

You may have heard of kung fu, but the girls at Oarai High School practice gun-fu – really, really BIG 75mm gun-fu, in fact. It’s called Sensha-do, and it’s the martial art of operating armored tanks! They take it seriously too, and since winning the national Sensha-do championship is such a huge deal at Oarai, they sometimes go to extreme ends in order to get the best students from Panzer class to sign up. Which is how Miho Nishizumi, who HATES operating tanks, gets drafted to join doomsday-driven driver Mako, even-triggered gunner Hana, highly receptive radio operator Saori and combustible tank-fangirl and loader Yukari as the incomparable Anko Team. They may not be on the half-track to fame and fortune, and maybe a few of them would rather shop for tank tops than become tops in tanks, but once their focus is locked and loaded, they’re absolutely driven.

    • Yi says:

I am a fan of girls, not so much of tanks, but definitely a fan of Girls und Panzer. I’m watching it indeed, and I love it so much right now! It’s an incredible sports anime wrapped up with an intriguing, ridiculously fun premise. ^ ^

Yi i found a really love ly yuri game called lonely yuri look for it and see if you like it

  93. gozieson says:

Aw man, I’m getting really overly attached to this arcade rhythm game called ‘Maimai Plus’. Produced by SEGA, this washing-machine knockoff cabinet game tests your skills in listening to the rhythm and anticipating notes and getting you to move to the beat as your palms attempt to try and keep up.

This game is/ is not a walk in the park. There are several difficulties to choose from for each song with a wide variety of song types ranging from game/anime soundtracks, J-pop and even Vocaloid songs. There is even a camera attached to the side of the game cabinet itself that will allow you to record your playthroughs and upload the videos onto Niconico (can’t load them into Youtube though).

Right now, I think I’ve wasted a good chunk of my allowance playing this excessively addictive game and uploaded one too many videos of me playing it. Here’s an example of me playing a song which has just been recently added into the mix, you can watch more of my recorded playthroughs on my Niconico page.

Niconico 【maimai】Gozieson 03/07 18:22 Tell Your World Master (Full Combo, S rank)

    • Yi says:

It certainly seems like it could be addicting! And you’re really good and smooth! It looks hard, but so much fun. I’ll see if I can find one of these in an arcade (although I’ll probably also have to find an arcade in Taiwan first).

      Cheers, gozieson. ^ ^

does anyone know about a good anime/VN containing both vampires and yuri relationships? I’ve always been looking for something like that but I couldn’t find anything.

    • Yi says:

Hm… That’s a tough one. You could try Amaranto; it’s a yuri V.N. with vampires. You can find a translation at Wings of Yuri: http://www.ghostyuri.com/
As for a good vampire yuri manga, I’m reading Iinari right now. It’s a fun manga with a vampire loli and light touches of yuri. I can’t think of anything for vampire yuri anime though. There is already not that many yuri anime…

      • tamed lion says:

Thanks Yi! I’ll definitly have a look at Amaranto. The Art style looks pretty good. I also checked on Iinari, but thats a little too weird. I guess, according to vampires, I prefer something more serious like vampire knight (great one, even without Yuri 😉

Hi! Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely check it out. A preview of Omoi No Kakera does look promising, and once I get home, I’ll read it. ^ ^

  96. Jose says:

Hello..well i finish this VN “Hinata Bokko” its short but its really cute… u should add a page where u can share the vn, manga and animes that u watched….

    • Yi says:

I’ll try to make time for it, although it’s unlikely.

And yes, I totally should add that page… Once I get the time. ^ ^

      • Jose says:

so its hard have time to do it…i hope u remember it when u get free time
        here is the ED… i love it!! <3, i hope you too…

  97. Amazake Aihara says:

Good day, Yi! 😀 uhmm.. any VNs that are similar or gives the same vibes like SonoHana series? 😀

  98. SnarkWolf says:

You’re probably not big on yaoi, but please hear me out. If you haven’t already heard of them, I recommend Junjou Romantica and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, both by Shungiku Nakamura. Both series have at least 4 couples. JR has Junjou Romantica, Junjou Egoist, Junjou Terrorist, and Junjou Mistake. SIH has Nostalgia, Domestica, Erotica and Trifecta. Despite being opposite genres, strangely enough, I noticed that there are a few couples in SonoHana that are kind of similar to some couples in JR. Egoist is quite similar to MaixReo and Terrorist has vibes of RunaxTakako. (P.S. Even stranger, sometimes when I listen to the OPs or EDs, I imagine the SonoHana girls in their places) I hope you will consider watching these. 😀

    Here’s JR’s OP:

    And here’s SIH’s:

And this is just for laughs. 🙂

    • Yi says:

Thanks for the recommendation, Snarkwolf. I love the OPs. I took a brief foray into yaoi a long time ago. It was interesting, and I can certainly see the appeal. I enjoyed what I read and watched (e.g. Loveless). So maybe it’s time I do so again. ^ ^ Cheers, darling.

      • SnarkWolf says:

*virtual high-fives Yi* I’m super glad that you’re considering my recommendation. The things the guys say and do for each other are pretty heartwarming and can work for almost any couple (whether male/male, male/female or female/female). That’s why I love these series so much. And if you have the time to, I’d love to see your reviews for either or both of them. ^_^

        • Yi says:

          *High-five!*

Agreed! I’ll try to fit a review of something, but no promises. I have such a huge backlog these days already, and a loose infrequent writing schedule because of school and work… I may not be able to get to it.

      • SnarkWolf says:

I hope you enjoy these series. *smiles*

  99. SnarkWolf says:

It’s no biggie, Yi. I agree you need to get your priorities done. In fact, despite it being summer in my country, I have school crap to deal with, starting late April. T^T OTL

  100. Jo says:

Not sure if you have it already, because I didn’t realise till now.. -____-”
Soutaiseiriron released a new album about 3 months ago.. and its great!! I didn’t like their last album so much.. but this.. is like their older stuff but better/similar/difference I think.. ^ ^

    • Yi says:

Ohhh I did not know that! I’ve been sort of really away from the internet mostly lately because things have become so busy. I’ve been wanting a fresh playlist for my work outs too. Thanks Jo!

  101. Grisaia no Kajitsu

Mihama Academy – on the surface, a closed learning environment established to nurture students who find themselves at odds with the world around them; in actuality, an orchard-cum-prison built to preserve fruit that has fallen too far from its tree.

Whatever the circumstances behind its establishment, Mihama Academy is at present home to five female students, all with their own reasons for “enrollment.” For better or worse, each girl has established a routine obliging of her current situation; life moves at an idle, yet accommodating pace within the walls of Mihama.

Yet with the arrival of the institute’s first male student, the nearly preposterously opaque Kazami Yuuji, the students at Mihama begin to fall out of step with their predetermined rhythms. Will Yuuji prove to be the element the girls around him needed to take hold of their lives once more, or will the weight of their pasts prove too steep a wall to overcome?

And in the first place, just who is Kazami Yuuji? While the true nature of the “job” he is wont to alight to at the most haphazard of moments remains shrouded in secrecy, one thing is for certain – his encroachment upon the quiet orchard known as Mihama Academy will prove itself momentous in one way or another. And of course, one cannot discount the possibility that perhaps Yuuji himself carries the weightiest past of any of the students…

    • Yi says:

I hardly have the time to play games these days, but it’s still always good to know what’s around. I really appreciate it, Vampire(G)Girl. ^ ^

      Cheers!!!

p.s. Grisaia no Kajitsu sounds pretty good.

      • Vampire(G)Girl says:

It is a good game but in Amane’s route will seriously give you the creeps, the one flash back scene just does not want to get out of my head and its totally freaking me out at work!!!

  102. Katawa Shoujo

Hisao Nakai is a normal high school student, currently in his final year of high school. One day Hisao receives a letter from parties unknown in his locker and waits at the written place for the sender. The person who wrote the letter turns out to be his crush; while speaking to her, he suddenly collapses. He awakes in a hospital bed, and is told by the doctors that the reason he collapsed is due to arrhythmia, a rare heart condition that causes his heartbeat to sometimes become irregular. Due to this, his parents have enrolled him in Yamaku, a school for disabled students of all kinds.

It’s been a while.. Hope you’re keeping well. Not sure if you still check the comments but Soutaiseiriron released another album last week.. It’s awesome!! The lead singer Etsuko Yakushimaru also did the OP for the new Sailor Moon Crystal anime.. That’s easier to find floating around on the internets..

I always think of you when there is a new Soutaiseiriron out, since you’re the one who introduced me to this band lol..

    Hope you enjoy..

Just got around to giving her new album a listen. The Sailor Moon OPs are lovely too. Etsuko Yakushimaru is perhaps my favorite Japanese singer now~
