Ew… Why do you Watch Hentai!?

Saya no Uta scan

Regular readers of this blog are probably no stranger to hentai. In fact, you may have seen a few regardless of your gender, and you definitely know of the perversions in the world of anime, manga, eroge, and especially doujin. However, to many non-anime watchers, their first thought to hentai is probably, “WTF, cartoon p0rn!? Disgusting… No thanks, I’m normal and I like normal real p0rn please.”

It is often hard to justify watching hentai to those unexposed to it.

However, hentai certainly does have some merits over live action in certain aspects. First, most hentai actually have real stories. Be it about true romantic love between two individuals, or a ridiculous harem of classmates, or even the systematic breakdown of a woman, anime undoubtedly have more depth. They make you care about what (who) the characters are doing. Comparatively, live action p0rn has no real plot beyond, “I’m here to deliver a package. Cue the sleazy jazz music.” The audience are never invested into the characters as much as when watching a good hentai. People often say that sex is much better with the person you love. I suppose that extends to pron as well.

Secondly, budget is not as much of an issue in hentai as it is in live action. With live action, cost is much higher with a larger cast and more renowned stars, and thus good adult films are often limited by the budget. Most productions will find it hard to produce a harem of beautiful women, and ultimately sacrifice both storyline and character qualities due to financial concerns. Obviously with hentai, this is not a problem. In addition, without much more effort and cost, anything can be made into reality simply by drawing it out. Hentai can therefore theoretically cater to a larger variety of fetishes and even the darkest desires of any audience. From the absurd futas to tentacles, loli sex to extreme sadism, anything is possible.

Further, we all know Japanese people have the wildest imaginations. (And they are really really weird)

Ichigo Mashimaro loli bath scan
Underage lolis

Hakurei Reimu Sayori Touhou
Armpit fetish!?

Touhou Ibuki Suika Oni
Demon sex…

Tako Luka Vocaloid
And the infamous tentacles, a staple in hentai.

Although this imagination is a pro for hentai, I suspect these are also the reasons anime has such a bad image in some people’s minds.

This blog entry was prompted by an article I read in the weekly Konshuu published by my school’s anime club. Despite my and others’ disdain for anime clubs, I still drop by once in a while for five minutes to try to win weekly prizes. I usually pick up an issue as well, which admittedly often contain quite entertaining articles.

Here is a link to the issue: Cal Animage Alpha Konshuu vol. 32 issue. 10
The article is on page 4, “Why Hentai is Better than Live Action P0rnography?” by Britt
The file size is a bit large for a pdf, so yea…

Anyway, do you watch disgusting weird cartoon pr0n?

  1. Karry says:

I dont watch hentai. Mostly because 99,9% of it is absolutely horribly animated. There are occasionally some incredibly erotic anime images i see on the net, but in motion it just feels…broken. If i ever want motion in my p0rn i choose live.

  2. FlyingFox says:

    lol Touho p0rn.

Someone asked the same question to me as soon as I came cross this at animenano. Yeah, having the story and having some characterization does help. I like to think of hentai/ero as a different way of showing p0rn, much like with anime/cartoons shows real/unreal/weird worlds.

Yeah, it’s hard to tell someone this when they have a set idea of what cartoons/manga/anime is. I was surprised, when I learn a girl who asked me if I was watching hentai and found out she was watching some as well. Sure, the Japanese do look at “weird” things in anime… but really, western art can also go that way I think.

It’s also surprising that your school anime club raised this. I wonder how it came about.

  3. Sweet topic! While I definitely prefer live action p0rn over hentai (and there are some pretty steamy mainstream adult videos out there with decent plots like The Masseuse and, to a much lesser extent, Pirates XXX) there is one genre that is unquestionably better in 2D than in 3D and that is (obviously) futa. Futanari in Japanese animation and hentai is all about chicks with dicks with chicks as opposed to the nearest equivalent in actual p0rn which is pre-op transsexuals that typically do it with “straight” men. There are so few titles that have “lesbian” scenes in them I can probably name them all and there are only two ongoing series that are exclusively female on she-male (don’t flame me for using the p0rn term for it). Whereas in hentai ( and especially in H manga) there are dozens of titles from sweet yuri lovin’ in Stainless Night to double dick madness in Bible Black. So yeah I watch hentai and I love H manga but mainly because it provides a fantasy that nothing in real life can match!

Thanks Yi, I think I just outed myself as a freak! Oh well, shikata ga nai!

  4. I think visual novels might even be a better medium for this sort of thing, at least, from the ones that I’ve seen since the authors do go through the trouble to make sure that the characters are appealing and that the player’s character has to actually work to win them over in the better VNs out there.

Anyhow, I think the concerns that you raise are some that Ebert has also discussed. One of the reasons why he dislikes most p0rn is because of how contrived the situations are. There’s no emotion flowing about to tie the characters together. Most of the time, the actors can’t even be bothered to kiss.

Of course, now I’m just somewhat curious about this article on Konshuu. I remember reading a copy that a friend had on her desk and thinking it was a horribly-written publication =P

  5. Jubbz says:

I watch Hentai because people on there can do things real people cant. And they’re cuter. Totz.

but on a serious note… I don’t know really. My moods for p0rn alternate. Sometimes im in the mood for real p0rn, sometimes for hentai. It goes everywhere and it’s weird. Probably because i’m like a desperate hippy who lacks pot.

  6. kluxorious says:

I have only watched couple of hentai in my life. Most of what I’ve seen are orgies with real love story served as a side dish (Japanese are weird like that). I’ve read a lot though and it never ceased to amaze me how imagination can translate into some… very weird fetishes >_>

  7. Ningyo says:

Of course. And obviously everything you listed is in my repertoire of fetishes. Except maybe extreme sadism, unless it’s of the dominatrix variety.
I totally agree with how hentai-ani wins over regular pr0nz. No limits, except maybe the skill of the artist… And poor writers… And animation budgets…
but ‘weekly *prizes’ and ‘*live action’ perhaps?

Sorry, that’s just my inner grammar nazi acting up.
Would you believe that I actually have a dakimakura with sayori NW’s Reimu cover?
I know the feeling, here I’m looked down upon as ‘so azn’ for ‘anime p0rn’.
But imho it’s infinitely better than being a closet enthusiast about it.

  8. Yi says:

@Karry: I agree that images are often much more erotic than animation. With that said, there are quite a few really pretty good hentai around.

@FlyingFox: That’s a fair point to make. There are definitely western erotica comics that are on par with the “weirdness” of certain hentai. Hentai garners a bit more attention, perhaps because its foreign. Anyway, agreed that hentai really isn’t a genre but a medium. Also, girls watch p0rn too. ^ ^

@Audio Erotica: The only major production in p0rn with real story that I know of are the two you mentioned, “Masseuse” and “Pirates XXX”. In fact, “Pirates XXX” had a budget of over a million dollars, which again shows my point that to have an actual story in live action, budget is a huge issue. Also, futa/ she-male is an interesting aspect of p0rn and hentai that I never really explored. Thanks for providing a quick glimpse into that. ^ ^

@zzeroparticle: I agree that visual novels have perhaps the most developed characters than any other medium, simply because of its length and words. That is also the reason Saya is the only real image of hentai in this post.
Ebert says that he does not like most live action p0rn. In contrast, I believe both hentai and p0rn have their merits. My post merely tries to justify hentai’s values and defend it against people who simply do not understand why it’s good.
Anyway, I’m not sure about your anime club’s Konshuu, but mine actually has decent content, although it is still pretty cheap publication. (I wonder if you go to the same club as me.)
If I can find the article online, I’ll link it.

@Jubbz: Same here. I believe both live action and hentai have their merits. Sometimes people are just looking for a quick release without having to delve into the characters and the drama.

@kluxorious: Agreed. The Japanese never cease to amaze me with their ability to find new fetishes… Some things in particular, I just don’t understand.

@Ningyo: Thank you so so very much for finding those mistakes. Those diction errors are just embarrassing. I’m glad you pointed them out somewhat early enough. Seriously, misspelling those were embarrassing.

There’s definitely a major stigma attached to viewing hentai that’s even greater than merely watching p0rnography.
Anyway, I would love a dakimakura with Reimu too. ^ ^

  9. Canne says:

Surprisingly, I’ve never watch one but not because I don’t like them, it just never really cross my mind. Maybe I need more friends?

I believe the points you raised about how Hentai is superior than live action are all true not just for Hentai but for anime overall. That’s why I love anime so much.

  10. Baka-Raptor says:

Story. It’s all about the story. If I’m looking for pure p0rn, 3D better suit my tastes.

  11. Hentai is somewhat a staple in the anime world in my opinion😄 Eventually all anime will lead to some form of hentai; be it fanart or actual hentai. You can’t help but be tempted and curious by it. There are lot of innovation in hentai too. I mean you think you’ve seen everything, but then something like Magical Girl Ai or Yaki Byotou shows up. Japan’s got some of the dirties imagination, yet they always have those mosaics down there😄

Gotta admit that I get involved in the story and then I suddenly remember it when I’m talking to someone and realized that I can’t tell it to anyone since it’s hentai, lol. Live action p0rn is just so generic.

  12. Yi says:

@Canne: You have never seen hentai? I’m a bit surprised. Loll, I don’t think that’s a result of not having enough friends. If anything, that may be a sign that you have a lot of friends. Hehe.
Anyway, I was careful in my post not to say that hentai is better overall than live action. I think in certain areas, it is, but both are good in their own ways.

@Baka-Raptor: Agreed. Not sure about 3-D stuff though…

@lightningsabre: Agreed that hentai is pretty fundamental to anime culture. In fact, for many non anime watchers, hentai is synonymous with anime, although that is clearly not true.
Anyway, I totally understand. You would think that all fetishes are exhausted, but every once in a while, something comes up that just makes me ask, “Why?”
With all the things in some hentai, it’s ironic that they’d have censors as if the mosaic would suddenly make it seem work safe…

  13. Ruby says:

Eww.. Hentai. Nope, I don’t watch hentai, therefore I’m completely normal xD
lol I guess I’m just not interested in watching people have sex or any p0rn in general~

  14. blur says:

    I just have to say…
The Stringendo and Accelerando series > *
    Lol…

Ok. I’m going to be reeeally honest here, I actually prefer hentai more than live action. It’s just so much more interesting. If I’m lucky, it actually has nice animation, story, and even music. Yup, not joking. Some actually has good themes. Though examples escape me for now.

    I’d say I watch 1:12 . 1 live p0rn to 12 hentais. Somewhere around there.

What I don’t and NEVER watch however, is incest, even if it’s “just” hentai. It makes me feel like throwing up.

With that being said, feel free to brand me an outkast from now on. Xp
I probably won’t ever see female visitors in my blog ever again. -.-“

  15. blur says:

Oh, I also don’t watch pee and poo hentais. Also just plain sick. -.-”

Although, I find it gets pretty hard to escape those nowadays… Especialy pee…

  16. Fujii_Itsuki says:

Interesting topic. Of course I’ve seen those cartoon pr0n. They’re a great source of amusement and pleasure~ Lol. Yes, the great thing about hentai is probably how it caters to a wide variety of kinks. Even the ones you didn’t think you had…Heh. Live action ones might not be as entertaining but it serves its purpose…

In the end though, I think I prefer literary p0rn more than visual. *runs*

  17. shijima says:

Btw, though I’m not into tentacles, that octopus Vocaloid is kinda cute.
    Interesting question.
I’d say not so much anymore. There’s very few yuri hentai out there anyways.
I actually didn’t like Shoujo Sect, I think I skipped through the first episode.

  18. FaS says:

    Hentai = sweet.

  19. Scamp says:

I have wondered how on earth I would ever justify hentai to ‘normal’ friends. The idea of even seeing an animated character in that context is totally alien to someone unless you actually watch anime. I certainly never thought of an animated character in that way before I started watching the stuff.

…yeah I’m not really going anywhere with this comment. I don’t really watch Hentai that much because when the women starts getting kicked in the face or tentacles fly out of unexpected places it really turns me off. I’m a happy p0rn kinda guy

  20. glothelegend says:

    Hentai I’ve seen:

    The Rapeman
    Shoujo Sect.

These are barely hentai in my opinion, as the story in each seemed to be most important (The Rapeman was fucking hilarious.)

If I ever do see glimpses of straight up hentai p0rn style, then I usually find it really funny.

  21. Well, when I start to know more about anime genres, I tried to watch hentai just to say ‘oh I know that…’, but well, god, I don’t know if it was just my lucky or if I downloaded the wrong ones…all them had rape scenes, old guys with girls of 14 girls, I start to watch them when I realized what the thing was about I start to skip all the thing, trying to find something ‘normal’ but was always like that *sigh*, so I didn’t tried it, I really hate real p0rn, I think that if theres outside some hentai with romance, so ir might be better, but I am not into it, I had enough with the 5 minutes of the hentais that I haved watched, the one that I watch longer was G-Taste, and I never watched the full episode, I tried Bible Black because someones said that has some yuri, the story is cool, if they could do a normal anime or a normal hentai without all that futa and that force sex, I would try it…but since is not like that, I skiped a lot…
So, if I wanna see something, it’s better watch Shoujo Sect than straight things…

  22. Yi says:

@Ruby: Haha, yea you’re perfectly normal. Anyway, to each her own. ^ ^

@Blur: Loll, I am almost certain that very many people watch more hentai than p0rn. They just don’t want to admit it.
Anyway, surprisingly (or not) I have no problem with non-blood related incest and full on incest only leaves a very slight distaste. On the other hand, I can not handle defecation or anything supernatural (tentacles, demon rape… etc) at all. Urination I’m a bit indifferent.
Still, I usually prefer more tamed and lovey dovey stuff.

@Fujii_Itsuki: Literary p0rn? As in explicit light novels?

@shijima: I kind of enjoyed Shoujo Sect, but I liked the manga much more. I don’t consider that hentai though, especially because I really only watched it for the story.
Anyway, Tako Luka is not really a tentacle monster in the hentai sense (at least I don’t think she is). I was looking for safe work images of tentacles and after a minute on danbooru/ gelbooru, I had enough. I decided to just use a non-hentai image. Same with demon rape… I didn’t want to look through a bunch of images that are not my thing, so I just went with Ibuki.

    @FaS: FaS speaks the truth.

@Scamp: I prefer happy stuff too… There’s way too much mutilation and degrading stuff in a lot hentai, but occasionally there’s a happy one.
Anyway, I agree it’s definitely hard to justify yourself to non-anime watchers.

@glothelegend: Based on the premise, I consider Rapeman hentai in every sense, although I have not seen it. Shoujo Sect I don’t though.

@Yuri Downloads: It’s a bit unfortunate that most of the hentai has got some really degrading or disgusting stuff in them (in my opinion… some people like them I guess). I think that’s also the reason justifying watching hentai is so hard too.
Anyway, Shoujo Sect is pretty much the only yuri hentai that does not have all that other weird stuff attached.

  23. DeathByPiano says:

I don’t get why so many people think it’s disgusting. When you think about it real p0rn is more so because it’s real people where as hentai is just drawings.
All in all both are just pixals on a screen.
I like hentai better because they have real story lines.

If you want a good hentai watch Hatsu Inu.
No futa, no loli, no tenticals, no rape or any of the other stuff that was listed.

  25. phossil says:

Yep, I watch hentai, but good hentai (if such thing exists), I mean soft hentai.
I only see it too depraved when there are tons of tentacles and things like that~~

  26. rockleelotus says:

i watch it because i have too.

im not into most of the extreme fetish stuff but anime and hentai kinda goes hand in hand, no? in japan where anime characters get idolized some people prefer to have 2D waifus! they are quite interesting too because some have great stories that gets you more into it, in a sense… it doesnt just start and cut off right away like regular pron. oh and much nicer with some dialog right? lol

    but yea, sure would be hard to justify it to someone who isnt exposed to it ^^;;

  27. Yi says:

@DeathByPiano: Hentai definitely have better story. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Phossil: Some stuff are really too heavy for my tastes too… Actually most stuff are.

@rockleelotus: That’s a great point. Hentai has a beginning and an end. It often has a real plot, and dialogue does make everything better.

  28. Snark says:

If we wanna talk ethics, it’s easily arguable that hentai is far less exploitative then live action hentai, and also a lot safer when it comes to weird and wonderful fetishes.

But who am I kidding? I like hentai cause it’s p0rn. Only communists don’t like p0rn.

  29. Shin says:

So I can reassure myself that the stuff I watch exists within only the two dimensional realms and that the authorities will overlook it.

  30. Akira Eshi says:

    I do not watch Hentai.
In my opinion this is a stupid occupation …

  31. Akira Eshi says:

    ***

    Sorry,
not a “stupid occupation”, “stupid thing” =)
…after preparation for the exhibition brain refuses to work.

  32. Blowfish says:

I do watch Hentai occasionaly and believe it or not I actually do so because it has something close to a story.A good adult movie be it real or anime has to stimulate not only the body but the mind to a certain extent aswell.

Its something different if theres a soulless lump of meat beeing pounded on or something that has a character and will.Sure most Hentai stories are still limited to very few sterotypical tropes and most stories are more rudamentary but thats still better than most p0rn.

What I avoid though are all those Hentais of darker nature since Im a goody two shoes at heart and cant approve of the stuff happeneing.I know that everything thats happening there is fictional but its enough to make me go in rant mode

  33. Yi says:

@Snark: That’s a great point I didn’t even think of. Despite the fact that hentai often depicts more degrading scenes of abusing women, the industry as a whole is far less exploitative than the p0rn industry.

    @Shin: Haha, you pedophile.

@Akira Eshi: That’s a fine stance to have. Good luck on your exhibition.

@Blowfish: Story does play a big part in my opinion in how arousing something is, so that’s definitely the number one justification. I also can’t really stomach stuff that are too dark. I prefer happy endings.

  34. I loves the cartoon p0rn.

Maybe that’s why I keep having dreams about fucking anime caracters >_<

  35. Yi says:

@21stcenturydigitalboy: Loll. Must be some nice dream.

  36. Akira says:

Interesting discussion here. I admit, I do watch hentai too but, like some of you said, I really care about the story line, music and the seiyuu ‘s voices. A happy ending would be a plus ^^

But if the story line gets too ridiculous (can’t think of one right now, but some of them just makes my eyes roll, guess it’s tailored to guy’s fantasies?) or the voices are too annoying I skip it. But I mainly watch hentai if there are yuri elements to it or if everyone is boasting about one. And I usually skip those weird/disgusting scenes (extreme sadism, random rape, torture is not for me). Ok one of the most disturbing scenes that I ever saw is the guy actually eats the girl’s poo/pee. EWwwww

Oh and I prefer ani-hentai over live p0rn because I find that in live p0rn, again, the story line is just plain stupid, insanely annoying voices, and I don’t know, I just don’t really like to watch real people engage in sex? I just couldn’t help to feel sorry every time when I see like an ad or a picture of the p0rn stars “you’re so beautiful, why are you a p0rn star? you could’ve gotten a better job than exploiting yourself”. I know that some of them didn’t ‘choose’ to become one, but still.

Of course ani-hentai has way cuter girls ^^ and could satisfy a whole range of needs ^^ doujinshis are great too

  37. Yi says:

@Akira: I never really pay attention to the voices, but that’s a good point too.
Anyways, I can’t handle hardcore stuff or abusive stuff either, and that example of scat was really gross. I always prefer yuri as well.

“I just couldn’t help to feel sorry every time when I see like an ad or a picture of the p0rn stars “you’re so beautiful, why are you a p0rn star? you could’ve gotten a better job than exploiting yourself”. I know that some of them didn’t ‘choose’ to become one, but still.”

Whenever I see a really pretty and young girl in those sidebar ads, I think the same thing. I always think, what a shame. She might have been someone’s dream girl in high school or daddy’s little prom queen. Instead, she is now out selling her body on camera…

  38. Misu says:

I personally don’t watch (or read) hentai, so I can’t really relate.

But the anime clubs thing… oh gosh. I once decided to try out my school’s anime club. They were so unerringly mainstream it was painful. I went to two meetings, and never again.

  39. 2DT says:

You attend Berkeley? That’s fabulous. I keep company with the best and brightest.

Can’t comment on animated p0rnography, but I enjoy H-manga every so often. The best ones display the same sort of craft that you would find in any well-made manga, and there’s an artistic delight in the body that you don’t necessarily see in the stories where everyone stays clothed.

That said, there’s entirely too much cervix-bumping in Japanese fiction. I understand that most women find that painful.

  40. Yi says:

@Misu: Their meetings/ showings are just not my thing. I usually would like my clubs to be much more formal and productive.

    @2DT: Yep I attend Berkeley.
Anyways, good H-manga can really portray really beautiful proportions.
Cervix bumping does sound really painful. There’s also way too much other stuff that most women would find painful and degrading.

    • Yi says:

I can’t stand monster or tentacles either. I don’t like coercion and rape either. Basically, keep it fluffy!

p.s. Sorry, but link in your name removed because it links to a clearly adult site.

  46. Overlord-G says:

I used to watch them for the same reasons you do/did. After developing an allergy towards winkies (2D, 3D or otherwise) except one, I only watch yuri H now and ONLY yuri H. I confess that I also watched H for their story rather than the actual H itself.
I can name a few H that I actually enjoyed the plots of, aside from yuri H ones such as Shoujo Sect and the Sono Hanabira OVA:
-Koihime (No relation to Koihime Musou)
    -Viper GTX
    -Elven Bride
    -Discipline
    -Crimson Climax
    -Tokio Private Police
    -Parade Parade
    -F3
    -Stainless Nights
    And some others I forgot.

Well yeah. That’s all I have to say.

    • Yi says:

Note: I don’t say whether I watch hentai, and the reasons I site are general reasons, not necessarily my own.

With that said, I have seen Shoujo Sect, Sono Hanabira, and a bunch of borderline ecchi shows like Queen’s Blade, but that’s about it.

  47. ayame says:

I do watch porn. But like all the other things, I’m very picky about it. Be it real life porn or hentai I hate huge breasts, silly looks and fake high-pitched voices. I try to find sth sweet/smooth or passionate not overly pretentious. I don’t always to focus on the plot, because I might read a doujin about known animanga characters. I also think that I tend to prefer manga to anime porn. Somehow it’s more easy to find what I like and a good plot.

    (I’m on a spree. I hope it doesn’t freak you…)

    • Yi says:

Same here. I’m very picky about my sexual gratifications and pleasures, so I’m pretty selective. It’s also a reason I don’t really watch that much, because it’s fairly taxing to find just the right one.

As for manga vs. anime, I think it’s easier to find what you like perhaps because there’s simply a lot more stories to choose from. There’s something for everyone, so to speak.

p.s. Not at all! You’re always welcomed to visit and I love your comments, doll. ^ ^

  48. Massaca says:

“Anyway, do you watch disgusting weird cartoon pr0n?”

No, I actually rather hate it. Well, that’s 99% true at least.
I adore Sono Hanabira but that’s about as far as I go. Even the SH OVA was a bit much, I guess I don’t like animated sex much as I’m fine with it in the VN’s. I tried Sugar’s Delight but found the first scene to be a bit disgusting so I promptly deleted it and then I decided I was completely done with the genre outside of SH (and I won’t change my mind, though I’ve been interested in Katahane for a while because of the couple on the cover and I love the OST but I don’t like the perspective switching as I found it confusing).

I rather like shojo -ai/yuri themes and would prefer that to M/F relationships in anime or games where possible but anything beyond the lightness of Sono Hanabira is too much for me. And even with SH I didn’t finish 7 cause Runa seems too young to me, don’t like that even.
So by extension I also don’t like sexually explicit loli.

As for real porn, I despise it. Hell, I even hate non-explicit sex in movies or on TV.

Anyway, I’ve forgotten a few things I was gunna add but I guess the point is this: I hate all porn and hentai apart from Sono Hanabira (and potentially Katahane) which seems to be the exception that proves the rule but I like non-explicit shojo-ai/yuri (just no sex). But it needs to be cute/romantic/whatev and have a nice story with it, I think having sex just for the sake of it is stupid and off-putting.

Or something like that, I dunno, I find it really hard to explain

To each her own. I think we all have different turn-on’s and turn-off’s. I consider myself pretty open to all kinds of preferences, sexual pleasures, or fetishes, but even then, there are some things I just don’t think I can ever get into.

I don’t really mind having sex without the romance at times… Even stupid sex. So yea, I guess we all just have different attitudes and ideas about sex, which is part of why it’s such a fascinating topic!

Thanks for sharing something so intimate. ^ ^

      Cheers, Massaca!

Probably worth noting I’m a guy, which makes it kinda strange to me cause almost every other guy I knew seemed to think sex is like the greatest thing ever, but it’s something I’ve never cared about. I just generally find sex to be vulgar and repulsive but in Sono Hanabira it feels more beautiful and romantic (I think) and it comes across as being special and meaningful (well almost all of the scenes) with actual passion.

But yeah, as you said “to each their own”.
And with that I’m done talking about this subject. Starting to feel a little uncomfortable, lol.

Having watched a fair bit of anime im naturally curious about hentai, I find some of it is badly drawn or has 10 minutes of story to 1 minute of ‘action’, some of it is too creepy e.g. schoolgirls getting forced by ‘evil people’, but some of it is fine, but for some reason it feels weird to watch it, maybe because its too close to anime. I do like some though, but I worry that watching too much would affect your perception of anime, so you might start having distracting thoughts all the time while watching innocent things, theres not really any discussions about that on the net that I can find.

    • Yi says:

I think those are all fair generalizations. Most stories I have come across in hentai are all pretty… terrible. Either they are simply too unnecessarily dark without meaning, silly, or just in bad taste. I think it is because of that that anime, by association, often gets such a bad reputation. It’s unfortunate, but I guess it is what it is.

“I worry that watching too much would affect your perception of anime, so you might start having distracting thoughts all the time while watching innocent things, theres not really any discussions about that on the net that I can find.”

Great point! I think once again, it ties into having a distorted image of all anime because of this subset.

Anyways, thanks for the visit and the comment, Ash!

Well I like tentacles and I’m proud of it, hell all my friends know it, and even *clears throut* my mom. I think that is what makes me unique in my own way, I like something not a lot if people like, but lucky for me my friends have fetishes they enjoy to.

    • Yi says:

It’s really good to see people not only unabashed about their fetishes but proud of it. And, even better to see that it is accepted by their peers and families. After all, you’re right. We all have our own fetishes. Thanks for the comment! ^ ^

ok I am a girl and I watch hentai every so often not as much just for the fun of it and for studies I mainly do it to learn from the guys to do it to a girl. I am a 100% yuri..but now sex has bored me. I see hentai and over and over the same moves I know it all for what? for nothing since I am a lesbian but the cute kind lol.. it bores me but I kind of question myself out of curiosity why is it girls enjoy guys that treat them like garbage so much on this fiction stories? why is it they get turn on by something so disturbing I mean this guys are hurting their
insides its cruel and ambicious of them……I guess in real life is a whole other deal…but my all time favorite got to be yuri for its innocence…
I think I just found my answer i need to stop watching it…….I ain’t even straight. I just wanted
to answer the questions of why women enjoy men….I just don’t understand and no
I don’t even like men that way…I have no fantasies I just want to look at the girls and find
out why they are please so much…if anyone has the answer let me know please I had been searching for it.

ok another thing rape hentai is insulting to us…and bondage is a pain…lol

    • Yi says:

I have to actually kind of agree with the sexual boredom most hentai offers—same motions and even same sequences. The sex gets very repetitive.

“why is it girls enjoy guys that treat them like garbage so much on this fiction stories? why is it they get turn on by something so disturbing I mean this guys are hurting their
insides its cruel and ambicious of them……I guess in real life is a whole other deal…”

We should keep in mind that hentai often has a very specific target audience, and so the fictional story is catered towards that demographic. If I were to guess at the reasoning behind those types of stories’ popularity, it would be this: hentai is one of the only medium that offers such wish fulfillment to people who enjoy them. Animation allows a wider range of story telling, and so it has the tendency to gravitate towards the more extreme, especially when pornography is concerned. But it is as you said: real life is different.

Rape hentai I find distasteful. BDSM, however, when done right (rarely), can be quite fascinating.

Anyways, thanks for the comment and the interesting thoughts.

The reason they like it is in the same way people have “unexplainable” hobbies.
Anyway, human brain works like an encoded system, analysing inputs with complicated encoded rules, and not all of these rules are logical and can be proactively changed.

The reason makes most of them (not all) logical is the natural selection: bad one die, good one live; but good/bad is good/bad for the increase of the gen’s popularity (by number and percent), doesn’t mean good/bad for each invidual’s life.
By that aspect, you can easily understand why so many people like (hetero) sex, regardless the risk, the cost, the pain, etc.

But modern human can be out of that natural selection. Human fight for what is right, human can challenge nutural rule. As there are more and more people approve homosexual (neutrally, homosexual can’t make child-> no next generation->not popular).
I advice you to follow what you like as long as it mean no harm to you and the others, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT try to make yourself enjoy what you dislike just because most people like it.

About the other thing you mentioned
“why is it girls enjoy guys that treat them like garbage so much on this fiction stories?”
“I guess in real life is a whole other deal”
Of course it’s different in real life. Many(or maybe too too much, especially if you search for them as porn) hentai stuff have terrible stories. If fortunately, it’s about making some nonsense reasons why they volunteerly have sex; or the worst where it’s raping (I ultimately hate raping). Anyway, the reason is that they want to go to the sex scene as fast as possible because it’s the only thing that they care about.

Btw, I recommend you the Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo visual novel series, it’s correctly the type of pure yuri, pure love, tenderness, no man-allowed whatsoever, there’s even no sextoy.

      • Yi says:

Thanks for the input, Avog. There are some really good thoughts here. The advice about embracing what you like is particularly nice.

As for the actual sexual preferences or fetishes, I usually don’t really focus too much on how they come about. I find it such discussions too often devolve into Freudian lines of thoughts. People like what they like, even if sometimes what they like seem completely unexplainable. (Although admittedly, I enjoy reading about different kinds of fetishes.)
