Fall 2009 Anime – Sasameki Koto, Black Rock Shooter, and More

Fall 2009 Sasameki Koto anime preview

Fall season has come around, and once again, among the myriads of anime that will be released, a few have caught my attention.

Sasameki Koto manga scan

Of course, the big news is that the very popular yuri manga, Sasameki Koto, is being animated and released sometime in October. I am obviously very excited for this. I don’t think this requires further explanation.

The other anime that I am also quite looking forward to is Black Rock Shooter, which is planned for the spring. (It really does not belong on this list, but whatever.) I don’t really know much about it, except that there is an amazing rocking figure of the character, and that the animation looks very stylized and incredible. There will be a pilot edition out late September, which I will certainly check out.

Seriously, how exciting does this look?

Kobato anime CLAMP manga scan

If I have a bit more time, I might watch Kobato as well. I love CLAMP’s works, and Kobato sounds pretty interesting. If anything, I will watch it merely because CLAMP has cute characters. However, I do have a massive backlog of stuff I need to do, as well as a rather busy schedule in the fall, so…

A few more preview screenshots of Sasameki Koto:

Thanks to Yuri no Boke for the source of these previews.
Any other upcoming anime that are must-not-miss or interesting that I should know about?

    Your forgot InuYa-

you know what…..never mind. What about that one where the girl is treated like the girl from the Ring? It’s called Kimi no Todoke. I’m kind of excited for that one.

  2. Snark says:

I’m really excited about Black Rock Shooter as well, the animation looks massive tits! Hopefully the tv series will live up to the hype though

  3. Yuki says:

Haha I agree you should watch out for Kimi no Todoke as well, very much comedy =DDD and Kampfer looks like a good series too esp if you like Gender Bender series, and I don’t feel like i’d be something like Maria + holic os I guess it’s worth the try. XDD

  4. Fujii_Itsuki says:

Oh, Black Rock Shooter looks really good! The art seems familiar…Play with shapes and colour seems very Gankutsuou-ish(Count of Monte Cristo anime a while back). Gonna keep this in mind…;)

Here’s a useful list of fall anime and synopsis:

Sasameki Koto is by default in my list~ Another I’m excited about is Darker Than Black 2. Really enjoyed the first series so definitely watching this. Kimi no Todoke too…kinda interesting that Production I.G. is doing it. Then Kampfer just because of the gender bending/pseudo-yuri potential~ Others will need to see initial response…Kinda tired of the of harem romcom + action/adventure stuff these days…Jungle Emperor Leo is pretty nostalgic though. It was called Kimba the White Lion when I was a kid. Avoiding Winter Sonata…

  5. Yi says:

@glothelegend: I’ve been hearing a lot about Kimi ni Todoke actually, but I’m still ambivalent about it. I think I will either watch Kimi no Todoke or Kobato, but I don’t have time for both.

@Snark: I hope BRS lives up to its hype too; from the preview screenshots, it looks like it.

@Yuki: With your suggestion on top of many others, you have convinced me to swap out Kobato for Kimi ni Todoke. Not sure about Kampfer. It’s not really my type of genre.

@Fujii_Ituski: BRS does remind me a bit of Gankutsuo. Thanks for the useful list. There were some on there that I didn’t know was coming out. Katawa Shoujo seems pretty interesting, and Kimba for the nostalgia factor.

  6. Have so many good animes this fall, but the one that I am waiting like crazy is Sasameki, I don’t know why, but no one saw the trailer that would be released last month in a comic event in Japan, but now that u posted some screens, I can say that Susumiya looks so much beautiful in the anime than in the manga! The same for all the others XD
Just let wish to it be very popular, so they don’t need to change the last 5 minutes of the final episode like they did with Aoi Hana to the serie end without a second season…

  7. Yi says:

@Yuri Downloads: I agree. The characters look cuter in the anime version. Sumika especially. I always thought she felt a bit too masculine and hard in the manga.

  8. saturnity says:

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Black Rock Shooter Anime. Whether it’s the seiyuu cast or the general plot, I think it’s pretty obvious that it’s going to be extremely popular.

And I’m pretty sure that Katawa Shoujo in the above poster is a fake, sadly.

  9. shijima says:

    Thanks for the previews.
Err…is it actually called “Kimi ni Todoke”? =)
Wow, the art for the Sasameki Koto anime looks very faithful to the manga.
I’m way behind on that as usual though…
I’d be interested in watching Darker than Black 2 cause I liked the first one.
Black Rock Shooter also looks quite cool.

  10. Yi says:

@saturnity: I think you’re right. I thought it was a bit weird that I have not heard anything about Katawa Shoujo being animated. Thanks for pointing that out.

@shijima: It is indeed Kimi ni Todoke. It just shows how weak my Japanese is. It also goes to prove that the first poster will often have a huge influence on subsequent posts…
The art for Sasameki Koto is indeed very good and very close to the manga. In fact, I think it’s even better. Sumika does not have as rounded of a face, which makes them look even prettier… Or I may be just completely wrong about that…
Anyway, I have not seen Darker than Black, so I’ll need to watch that. There are so much I need to see.

  11. Yuki says:

@Yi: yay~ I convinced you to watch Kimi ni Todoke, =DDDD Yay XDD Actually I’m just gonna try Kampfer and see if I’d like the series or not. In the past I read the manga for Kimi ni Todoke and it was really good, comedy and also the love story is good. =DDD

  12. Yi says:

@Yuki: Yea, I’m actually quite excited for it as well. ^ ^

  13. Optic says:

Looks like everyone is looking forward to Sasameki Koto. Intentially I am planning to watch it as a joke but now the hype is getting to me. lol

This series could live up to my exceptation after all. lol

  14. Yi says:

@Optic: Hehe, submit to peer pressure. ^ ^
I hope it does live up to expectations. If it’s faithful to the manga, I think it will.

hatsune mix then chibi miku-san and black rock shooter cool!?! XD! more vocaloid show the more people addicted!?!

  17. watchanimezz says:

Its now out. Has anyone seen it yet?

  18. Johnny says:

I’ve watched “Sasameki Koto”… i want a second season, please !! i dont want the longest yuri anime to be the most implicit & frustating (if u know what i mean…) !!!

    • Yi says:

It’s possible; the manga is still ongoing so there’s definitely more story available for another series adaptation.

      I’d love to see that.

  19. Johnny says:

Dont see another season of “Sasameki Koto” for the moment, but a good news for the end of the year : the manga will be released in France !

    • Yi says:

      That’s super awesome!!
I’ve yet to watch Sasameki Koto… I should really get on that soon. There are just too many anime I still need to watch.
