As a yuri fan, how can I pass this series up?
Actually, looking back on my posts, I realize that I never wrote my opinions on the other three seasons… I guess I’ll just say a few quick words here about my thoughts on Maria-sama, Haru, and OAV. They were very enjoyable and were perhaps the beginning of my appreciation for faintly tinted yuri.
Yumi-sama and tsundere Touko
Maria-sama ga Miteru 4th Season is similar to the previous seasons. The interactions between the soeurs only very slightly hint at yuri. However, what is clear is that these girls care deeply about each other to a poignant degree. That aspect makes very heartwarming stories.
The ending seems quite yuri and definitely shows the sincere affection between the characters.
Yumi is now a second year, and she needs to find a suitable imouto to accept her rosary. The prime candidates are Kanako and Touko. Early in the series, Kanako finds her own path, and that leaves Touko as the best potential petite soeur. Though there are some minor plot lines about the other roses, this season centers around the delicate development of Touko-chan and Yumi-sama.
I love all the girls in Yamayurikai. They each have their own personalities and struggles. I especially loved Touko by the end of the series.
Perhaps the most fantastic thing about Marimete is how it makes everyday schoolgirl drama into such appealing and even touching stories. This is a wonderful anime that touches deeply on the emotions and relationships between girls.

She’s actually not too much of a tsundere and more just having a lot of pride. Still, she’s quite cute.
Eheh you’re actually doing a 4th season even before doing the first 3 seasons? ^^; I’m trying to get a review of all the seasons done first before 4th season, but I’m slogging at it oh so slowly! But the melodrama is so thick this season that you can cut it with a knife… and I love every bit of it! I’d love to see more, but it’ll be a while and then Sachiko will graduate by then T-T
I love every bit of the drama as well! Sachiko will graduate, but she’s still staying within Lillian though, so I hope to see what happens if they do make more.

I think that’s a fan art by Shingo. You can probably find a scan on most imageboards. Don’t remember exactly where I found it.
Anyway, I really loved their outfits in that one too, even though they’re a bit inconsistent with the series. The fashion’s just too cute to leave out.

I have just finish watching this anime and now I can understand why everyone consider it one of the greatest (If not THE greatest) Shoujo ai out there.
As always, finishing a shoujo ai/Yuri anime (even though those are the only anime genres I’m into.) leaves me with a bittersweet felling.
That sadness is product of having to say good bye to a lot of characters that I have seen through a lot of thing. But the most important thing, I watched them grow up.
But this anime leaves me something more, because is not an anime to be taken lightly. It has really deep parts. For example, there was one of Sei’s lines that really touched me:
“Wouldn’t it be sad if you tried to ignore love only because you knew one day it would come to an end?”
That one line was enough to make me re-think many aspects of my life again.
But what really surprised me was Touko.
I end up liking her character the most (Pretty much like you Yi!), just because she reminds me about my self a lot.
I’m always wearing a mask, to hide my feelings and that is not healthy at all and is something that I have always tried to change.
Maria-Sama Ga Miteru trigger a huge introspection on me.
It’s not just a love story, but is also about life, and I think we all can learn something from this wonderful anime. (I’m looking forward to read the manga since there are a lot of things missing in the anime.)
As always, please forgive me for my precarious English. And Yi; Your review was really good, I know I read it like four years late. But anyway, keep up the good work.
I think it is indeed one of the best, and certainly one of the most defining pieces of the “genre”. If there were a canon of yuri, this will be a highlighted classic.
I can perhaps sympathize a bit with that bittersweet feeling. Usually, parting with a really good anime leaves me with that sense of nostalgia as well, but for Maria-sama ga Miteru, it’s especially so. The build-up and the subtlety and the quiet anticipation all lead to that slight sadness when it is all over. “I want to see more; I want to enjoy that relaxing, slow lifestyle more, but I know that I have to move on.”
There are a lot of really keen moments in the anime. Some hopeful, and others cutting. Most are little pieces of wisdom for young people going through life though, and I love it.
Anyways, thanks for the kind words on my pieces. My style has changed quite a bit over the years—and sometimes I look back on certain posts and wonder how I ever thought to publish it—but, it’s fun nonetheless. ^ ^
p.s. Touko is probably my favorite too! Interesting though that you think she’s like me. I’ll take it as a compliment. ^ ^ Thanks, Machi darling. ♥

Where I write “Pretty much like you Yi!” I meant that I liked her [Touko] as you did. I mean, I sympathize with her. (because I read in one of your answers that you liked her character too).

Anyways, no worries about your English. It’s very fine. And, I do see a little bit of myself in Touko, at least more than I see in most other girls of Marimite. Or maybe, I simply aspire to have her fierceness.
English is not my first language, but it is the language I am most comfortable in. I lived in California for the bulk of my language and learning years.
